Have you ever considered starting a compound?

With the direction this (MY DAMN) country is going, I've been having thoughts about starting a "Conservatives Compound";

One where two or three families with the same social/political/religious/conservative beliefs live together in separate "mini-houses" but have several acres for gardens and livestock, and some meal (meat) hunting?

I don't know if I'm expressing exactly what I've been feeling here lately, but if my country continues to head down the same path its been on the last few years, then I/we must do something!!!!!!

Have any of you had similiar thoughts? I'm curious, and perhaps need some inspiration.

Jim

Never considered it and can't say that I think enough of the idea to try and give inspiration to it. Actually sounds way off the wall to me.

That would be a sure way for conservatives to alienate themselves from the community, to be quite honest. I don't see an advantage, other than survival in a TEOTWAWKI situation.

They have them in Israel, its called the Kibbutz, however I don't know how their political views are involved.........

I think having several acres for gardening, livestock, and hunting is a great idea myself......that's why I live out here in the sticks on 34 acres.

But......gotta say the compound thing sounds a little "waco" to me :wave:

I hear you can get a cheap little one room shack with a lot of land up in Montana. Something about the previous owner being an academic type that used to send letters out...or something like that.

But seriously...I can understand the appeal of removing from society and living off the land but the days of the frontier are over. the government we have is the government we elected. I'm gonna guess and say 99% of TGO members pretty much don't like the way ALL things are these days, but the fact is that politicians of the ilk we have now are elected by people that want the government to take care of them cradle to grave. They value saftey over freedom, and in general do not concern themselves with rights and ideals that most of us here are passionate about. Thats how a lot of people are these days. Add that to the fact that a lot of politicians are simply hogs lining up at the feeding trough and there you have it. We elected 'em.

Hey Protex, a lot of people think along the same lines- they just don't post to this board. You might read the book "Patriot" by Rawles. It is a fun read-- it is full of guns.

I thought about it, but then I don't like enough people well enough to want to be around them 24/7. The property thing is a good idea.

You could also check out some of the freesteader websites out there.

Exactly, it was called "communal living" (communes). As I recall the idea was attacked by those on the right as "socialistic" or "communistic." Ironic that some on the right want to do the same thing their brethren dissed back in the day.

I guess when a certain level of dissatisfaction with or alienation from government/society sets in, these sorts of ideas come to the fore. A sign of the times, perhaps?
