I guess I didn't read the question the way a lot of us did. Here's what I think he was trying to get at with his question.

In my lifetime I have heard any number loudmouthed, obnoxious ex-Marines shoot their mouths off about their many exploits in the service and direct many derisive comments at the other services. But in my entire life I have NEVER heard a COMBAT Marine say anything of the kind. Most guys who have been in combat are reluctant to even discuss it with their families, much less brag about it. And they are also very reluctant to badmouth the members of the other services who have "been there".

Now, as an analogy, the websites that discuss self defense, close combat tactics, firearms, and such always seem to attract a certain number of "wannabes" and "Mall Ninjas" who pack the most forbidding ordnance made and "talk the talk". They familiarize themselves with all the cop slang, military slang, street slang, gun slang, and then come onto legitimate websites and talk as if they invented the self defense shooting, and do so in the most disrespectful and presumptuous of terms. So, I took the original question that started this thread as a challenge to this faction to put up or shut up. Unfortunately the question used language that got the thread away from its original intent from the beginning, or what I feel was its original intent. Good intentions, but bad wording is how I see it. I think it would have been a lot more productive if the question had simply asked how many of us have felt the need to draw our weapons to defend ourselves. I've seen this question on other sites and it's usually good for a very productive discussion.

So, I took the original question that started this thread as a challenge to this faction to put up or shut up.

You have GOT to be kidding. Maybe those who want to present that type of challenge should keep it on the Mall Ninja Wannabe forums cause this is not one of them.
