Woman pulled gun

on visitor, police say

A 29-year-old woman was charged with aggravated assault Monday night for allegedly threatening another woman with a gun, according to a CPD report.

Elizabeth Paulson, 29, brought out a .40 caliber handgun after a woman and her husband came over to Paulson's apartment to try to resolve an ongoing feud. The victim said she felt her life was in danger and left the apartment. Paulson's husband immediately took the gun away from his wife, the report said.

The victim said she didn't leave the first time Paulson asked because she wanted to clear things up. Paulson responded by going to retrieve the gun.

To me, if I asked someone (whom I'm in a dispute with) to leave my home. I would say it's within my right to retrieve my gun. If the victim felt their life was in danger, maybe leaving when asked would prevent that.

Unclear, though. The husband grants permission to enter. Wife asks person to leave. Who wins? The person is not attacking or breaking in, but was escorted and openly there as a guest. Pulling a gun on a guest that is "with" another household member is very bad form.

This is silly. This is something that could have been avoided.

I'm sure there is more to the story than the sound bite in the paper.

I believe it's always unwise to invite someone into your home whom you are having an argument with. In Tennessee that's what the front yard is for, so all the neighbors can see. ;)

I'm guessing that by the vagueness of the article, it's a mistress. Or at least that's how it seems to me.

If you have ever had a run in with the "media" whether in print or TV, you know how innacurrate the reporting is. I remember the Tennessean doing a story on my daughter who races BMX. By the time the story was written, but my wife and were former professional BMX'rs. All the facts were wrong, but the way it was written was WAY more interesting than what we told the reporter. We learned really fast that rarely when you read a story or see on the local news, is it EVER accurate.

Yep, as has been said above, it depends on the circumstances.

If YOU invite someone into your home & they start acting a fool & threatening you, you may be within your rights to pull a gun. If someone else that also lives there invites them in you would probably be better off calling the cops & having them remove the person or settle the issue. You cant just pull a gun on a guest thats been invited into your home by someone else because you dont like them.

But I agree also, there's more to this story. And yes the news reports things wrong & messes up the "facts" all the time.
