Best fixed blade carry knife.

I'm looking at carrying a fixed blade "tactical" in addition to my CCW. I normally carry a Kershaw blur but i'm wanting something that I could possibly pair up with my holster. Any ideas or advice?

I've been contemplating the same thing. I have been looking at the esee izula. Everything I've read says it is hard to beat. It will probably be my next knife purchase.

I've got two ESEE H.E.S.Ts. They're great blades. The izula is a great blade, too.

I'm partial to Bark River Knives. I have several that are in my EDC line-up. I have a really cool escort that I absolutely love. I have both the leather sheath and a kydex one depending on my carry.

I also have several neck rigs I carry several others with.

Love them both.

I generally have a Hideaway as well

My opinion, you carry a knife for SD, you want something that will stab well, not just slice.

Great utility knives, but I really don't think the Izula/Eskabar/etc styled blade fits the bill all that optimally. Also, you'll need a good grip. I realize the add on scales for the Esee line fillls the bill there, but still not wild about the blade shapes for SD.

Certainly any knife, like any gun, is much more effective than a harsh word, but ....

I'm really liking my Benchmade Rant EDC. Perfect size and disappears under a shirt with a kydex sheath. Mine is the drop point for general usage but they make a tanto version also.

First be aware that It is illegal to carry a Bowie,Dirk,Dagger or double edged knife in Tennesse. Either in the in sight or hidden.Fixed blade knives are also a nono unless your are pursueing an outdoor activity that you need one for. This is my understanding. Now for the reality. I might carry several different fixedblade knives depending on my dress or mood.

Working on a double shoulder rig for my WW III Kukri and Kandros Commander. Both sn the same.

The good thing about the REKAT is I can carry my modified trianer as my baton legally.

Yeah, surprisingly knife laws in TN are more stringent than gun laws. Always struck me funny, how with a HCP I can carry my choice of handgun, but a ESEE 5 is gonna get me in trouble?

Your understanding is not very good. Additionally, why would you come on an internet forum and freely admit you are breaking the law (according to your understanding)? Even though you are not breaking the law, unless you knife is over 4 inches, it still isn't very smart. There is a thread that shows what the TN knife laws are.

Sorry, but your understanding is totally wrong.

The only mention of some of these type knives is in 39-17-1309 (carry on school property), where it's moot even there, since the statute really bans ALL knives.

Perfectly legal otherwise to carry any knife in TN 4" or under blade, folding or fixed blade, openly or concealed (except switchblade). The only "iffy" question is that blade length measure is not defined, as to whether it is only cutting edge or entire length of blade past haft.

However, just like open carry of pistol, don't be surprised if you're questioned by LEO for a 4" hunting knife on belt.

The only thing you got right is that there an exception to make it legit to carry longer knives in relation to various outdoor activities.

Some other places I travel Knives of any size are considered normal.Try carrying a straight blade in public of any size and style and see what an leo will do. Any knife can be considered a concealed weapon by an leo if it is not in plane sight. You also have to check local ordinances. As to the bowie,dirk or dagger law it dates from the 1800's.

Just an aside about knives being suitable for Self Defense....

I'm a Martial Arts instructor and can do just fine with my Hideaway.

That said, it depends.

In a "Knife Fight" which only happens in movies really, you want to have a long blade to maximize your reach.

In any other situation you want a knife you can deploy very quickly and NOT DROP.

I'm more of a slasher than a stabber.

Knives aren't like bullets. Arteries are just below the skin.

My favorite Folder is an Emerson Karambit (which I also know how to use)

There may be all sorts of local laws I'm unaware of, most unenforced, just like the "all firearms are banned except an Army or Navy pistol carried in the hand", which many towns have but do not enforce.

Whatever. I stated the (somewhat unusually) fairly straightforward knife law of the state of TN.

While I've not seen a lot of fixed blades carried in public, I have seen several this summer. Last one was a guy in Halls carrying a Buck Pathfinder. One of salesmen at Blue Ridge Mountain Sports carries a Becker BK-11 on his belt and another fellow I saw was carrying an old Schrade Sharpfinger. Nice looking older blade. My point is LEO's weren't bothering this folks. The only illegal one was the guy with the Buck Pathfinder. He had it hanging from is belt, but tucked into the back pocket of his jeans. It's like anything else, if your not causing trouble, it's going to be ignored most of the time. Now if your doing something stupid, then yeah, it's going to used against you.

Being a fan of CR fixed blades, I would agree. However, you can't legally carry the Pacific unless it is for hunting, camping, etc... The only 4 inch or less CR fixed blades that I know of are the professional soldier (great knife) and his one piece design, which has been discontinued. A 4 inch one piece such as a Shadow III is also a fantastic knife, but since they have been discontinued and the demand is high, prices are really going up fast.

I like a brand called Helle,made in Norway . More of a hunting knife but they are SHARP! SMKW used to carry a lot of them but not so much anymore. Used to be a bunch on Feebay.

I usually carry a ZT 0350, but when I carry a fixed blade it's typically a Busse SAR-3 in a Dan Ward OWB sheath. The sheath I bought directly from the maker and the SAR-3s are fairly readily available on the secondary market.
