My weekend 4 wheeler ride

Long story short.

Saturday out for a 4 wheeler ride we had a close call. I had took my wife on a short trip and on our return home we grouped up with another group to go to another place before going home. I ask how the trail was before going. They told me it was not bad. It had been a few years since I had been on it.

I am leaving a bit out out this to make it short.

After we ended up though some rough trails, they said don't worry there is an easy way out, kinda made me wonder why we didn't take the easy way in.

Long and short, there was this one long and fairly steep hill, not so steep to one should worry to much about but not to take to lightly either. The first 4 wheeler doubled his wife up, no problem, next with doubled man and kid up. Next a solo rider, and another solo rider. Next a Kid followed by Me and my wife.

This was a hill that the first group just went one right after the other about 30 feet around. The hill was long but no need to get a racing run at it and not steep enough to worry about flipping.

About half way up the kid in front of me lost traction completely. It would not have mattered had I stayed at the bottom and gave him time I would not have seen him for the trees.

So there we are, he is spun out and I had to stop behind him. I am worried he is going to come rolling back and crashing into me and my wife.

He he yelled back, he was sorry but he had enough traction to hold. I was trying to get my wife to get off my 4 wheeler and get her to go stand behind a tree. My first thought was get her to a safe place.

I got her to a safe place. Then I got my self off mine while still holding the breaks. Now I am in a spot that I can get away if he comes rolling back.

I ask him if he had any rope and what kind. He did. I surveyed out the options.

I directed him on how to get backed into a tree, really his only option to keep his 4 wheeler from rolling back off the hill into mine.

Then I had him get the rope and tie mine to a tree to secure it to prevent it from going backwards.

At this point both 4 wheelers are safe half way on this hill.

I climbed back on mine and tested the grip to see if I could pull out on the hill and I could. I had him un tie the rope and I took mine to the top expecting the others. Come to find out they had went further up on.

I walked back down the hill to my wife and him.

I decided to use the pistol I was carrying at the time to fire a single signal shot to get attention.(I knew the direction the group was, and I fired into a good backstop in the other direction. I started to shoot a tree, but I considered the land owner and did not)

You will love this.

I was going to take my taurus Judge along, however we decided for my wife to get some target practice in I would just take the walter P22. The Kid said is that a GLOCK.

However the Walter P22 with stingers made enough noise to get the attention as soon as I fired it I heard them fire up a 4 wheeler and turn around.

(I believe the reason his 4 wheeler could not make it up the hill, something was wrong with the 4 wheel driver system, I watched, it seemed like he was not getting power to the wheels correctly)

However I don't plan on going for a ride with them again. That is not the type of riding I normally do.

I am still sore from the ride.

We ended up going back down the hill and out another way that was actually easy.

I am just glad no one got hurt, that could have turned out bad.

Sometimes it isn't what you do, others have just has much impact as what you do or mechanical issues.
