sorry if my first post sounded like a seat belt lecture, was not my intent at all.

I absolutely agree with your candy comment. Should be no laws to make person wear one, motorcycle helmet for that matter, and bicycle helmets for kids either. Not sure how I lasted this long without gov't intervention.

I wish I could turn the thing off in the wifes car. That thing starts ringing within five feet of movement and won't ever stop. On my 99 truck it never makes an audible warning and the dash board warning light turns off after a minute or so.

While you're at it, you should probably disable the front and side curtain airbags. Most likely your first two cars weren't even equipped with them, and you somehow managed to survive.

Good point. Like Greg, I made it through all my wrecks just fine without seatbelts. I one case, I would NOT have made it out (without a scratch) if I had been belted in. I started wearing seat belts because I'm scared of the airbags. You don't want to be next to one when it deploys.

Greg I'm glad you got your question answered. But to expect no conversation on the wearing and not wearing of seatbelt is kind of naive. You just waved the flag at the bull and got mad at it for charging.

I'm not mad. I just marvel at the fact that so many people who don't have the answer to a very specific question still feel the need to comment anyway. I suppose it makes them feel superior. I've done it myself on more than one occasion. It reminds me of what Ron White said: "I had the right to remain silent, what I didn't have was the ability.":D

Your question was answered in the first two responses, yet you continued to instigate those who question you breaking the law by calling them "candies." You proceeded to put conditions on who should or shouldn't comment, based on an inflated sense that you started the thread. It's a message board, people are gonna talk.

I'm glad you resolved your pressing seatbelt issue, good luck and safe travels. If you have a problem with the law, work to get it changed, but name calling those who follow the law is petulant at best.

There is a way to program most cars to not do what this car is doing. That procedure is what I'm looking for, and I still do not have an answer. To my knowledge, there isn't a law against turning off a bell. If there is, would you be kind enough to give me a link or quote it? I was calling the entire U.S. population candies, including myself.

Actually, the OP should have the right to comment on who should or shouldn't post responses to his request for help if he gets this type of crap. He asked a simple question, but got everything from people calling him a lawbreaker to a jab about buying foreign. Thread drift is one thing, but smartass comments to the OP that are not related to the thread are another. Who said he will break the law, anyway? Perhaps he plans to do a lot of stop-and-go driving on private property with his Accord.

This type of crap? I stated my thoughts, and the OP responded well. Kindly clarify what crap I have slung in this post.

Perhaps if the OP said in the beginning that he planned to use the seatbelt but would like to disable the warning, the thread would not have been met with "smartass comments." Reasonable folks understood his request as a way to bypass using the seatbelt, and confirmed when the OP stated his solution. I didn't see a foreign car jab, it must have been deleted. He asked a simple question, and got more than a few helpful answers.

It's basic, though - if someone drives without using their seatbelt on public roads, they are breaking the law. If you don't like the mandatory seatbelt law, work to get it changed. I apologize for not being more helpful in assisting someone in breaking the law.

jmac, Do you, or do you not know how to deactivate this feature? Also, I'll ask you once more to cite the law I'm breaking in deactivating this feature.

I do not know how to deactivate this feature, short of inserting buckle into seat belt recepticle. To my knowledge, you would not be breaking any law in deactivating the chime. As I wrote before, it looks like you have found a solution, good luck and safe travels.

I think this qualifies as both "smartass" and "crap."
i think it is pretty reasonable considering the violence that occurs when airbags are deployed, especially if you choose to be unbuckled. Most airbag injuries occur to those who do not use seat belts, but what do I know, I'm no expert.

“If you do not wear a seatbelt, the airbag can be a weapon, a source of injury. If you do wear a seatbelt, the airbag most likely will be helpful,” said study coauthor William F. Donaldson III, a Pitt associate professor of orthopaedic surgery and neurological surgery and chief of the Division of Spinal Surgery. “By not buckling your seatbelt, you increase the likelihood of a spinal fracture and spinal cord injury when your airbag deploys in a frontal collision.”

Your mileage may vary, though. Good day.
