My First C&R Purchase - Mosin Nagant M91/30

Decided it was time to explore the wonderful world of C&R!

Bought her from AIM Surplus, along with 440 rounds of ammo.

The cosmoline wasn't as bad as I expected, but still pretty nasty to clean up; turned out pretty though. Concerned about a few issues I saw; one is some rust on the mag assembly where the screw goes in, two is some tarnish on the bolt. I'm thinking maybe I can polish the bolt up some, but not sure what to do about the rust issue, it looks like it's rusted under the finish and lifted the finish off.

In case you are not aware of it, that ammo is corrosive. Some windex and a couple of patches will do until you get home from the range for a more thorough cleaning. Congrats on your purchase. Looks to be in excellent condition.

Nice looking Mosin. I picked up one of the 1943 dated M44's, but I have not cleaned and baked it yet. Mine is almost dripping with the stuff.

the little rust you described won't hurt anything. Soak some CLP into it. And just keep it oiled.

My 91/30 looks like a tank ran over it, has not changed a bit over the time I have had it.

I wonder if someone did not all the sudden find a stash of surplus X54r. The price was steady for ages at 90 bucks for 440, now this 69 a can stuff.
