Was just wondering if there was anyway to get NRA Instructor Training in middle Tn? Don't mind a little travel, but don't really wanna drive 3 hours like another guy on here to find no class. Also, am I right that one needs to take a basic level class before taking the Instructor class?

I'm the guy that drove down to Lawrenceville, Ga to find no instructor.

I just signed up for the NRA pistol instructor & Range safety officer classes with Mike Crow in Oak Ridge. The class is next weekend, Once I'm done I'll post a review of the classes.

I just got back from the NRA pistol instructor & range safety officer classes with mike crow in oak ridge. I'll try to type up a review later on. but Mike is a great instructor, and very informative, I'll be going back to him for other classes in the future.

my instructor certification fee's are paid, Just waiting for the NRA to process & mail me the certifications.

What's the total cost for becoming an NRA pistol instructor and/or range safety officer? Do you plan on doing any work in this field, or just wanted to learn more?

Originally it was just to improve myself, but It got to the point I was 'teaching' several friends, & realized I wanted something more organized than what I was doing. Once my certifications get in, I'll be applying to the state to get my TN armed guard trainers license. I've already spoken with my boss, & its possible that I'll either be teaching or assisting him teach our new armed guards. later on I'll look at also teaching TN' HCP.

as for cost, each Training Counselor & Instructors set their own fee's. for my Basic Instructor Training, Basic pistol instructor class, & Range safety officer class cost me $495. total certification fees to the NRA for instructor & RSO was $33.50 (slightly higher if you are not an NRA member). that doesn't include time off from work, travelling from Chattanooga to Oak Ridge & a Hotel room for two nights. on the Hotels, if you go, stay at a hotel in Oak Ridge. I stayed at a cheap one in W. Knoxville. lets just say that I have stayed in worse. but I had a 20 min drive to the classes. If I had stayed in Oak Ridge, it would have been much more convieneant.

all in all Mike was an excellent instructor. He kept us on track & answered questions as we needed them, I think I spent about an hour after the RSO class sunday just chatting with him. Mike is very knowledgeable & has been teaching for years, and it shows. A very excellent instructor in my humble Opinion.

Let me know if you have any questions, & I'll do my best to answer them.
