Interesting bits of info:

NFA transfers peaked in 2008 (Obama fears?) and have declined since

I'd be more inclined to believe it's due to the economic situation. Not as many people are buying NFA items.

I'm sure the economy has slowed transfers, since it has slowed ALL retail sales within the industry.

But the spike in 2008 was directly tied to a fear of the NFA being changed or altered by an Obama run White House.

I can tell you that I personally sold LOTS of NFA items to customers that were "...going to hurry up and buy...before Obama kills the NFA..." etc.

Bimmer,

Why is the difference in the two charts? The first says "number of NFA forms processed by FY" the second says "number of NFA Firearms processed".

There is a steady incline in "forms" but a bell shape for "firearms"

The forms section could be for other than firearms. Explosives, DD's, Importation and Exportation as well as a myriad of other reasons to file with the ATF other than NFA "weapons".

The bell curve one is for firearms alone. The fireams are roughly 8x as much as the forms for other reasons.

That's kind of what I assumed but wasn't too sure. I did notice the vast difference in number of forms filed for firearms
