A few weeks ago I got this as an early birthday present. :( It's my grandpa's old 1917 enfield or at least a bastardized version. The previous owner replaced the military barrel with a sporter barrel. He cut the bolt handle off and reshaped it. He cut off the "ears" that protected the rear sight. Then he replaced the original stock. I guess the receiver is pretty much the only original part left!

Grandpa gave it to my uncle a long time ago. He has at least 50 rifles already so he was glad to give it to me for a birthday present. He took the rear sight off to put on a scope mount. I can't use stripper clips now but at least I can still hand feed the rounds. :P As of yet I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. I hope I can use it soon. :D

While I'm showing pics here's a picture of a rifle stock the aforementioned uncle hand crafted from woven maple for his 10/22. I only see him once a year at the family reunion so every year I need to see it again. I absolutely love it.

Crap. I didn't pay enough attention to the forums so I didn't see the show & tell forum. Sorry about that. If a moderator could kindly move this I would appreciate it.

That old rifle has got lots of potential. Would make a great hunting rifle. The Enfield 1917 is a very strong and well built rifle.

Yeah my grandpa dropped a lot of deer and elk with it. That's why he got it. He didn't care about historical or resale value. He just wanted a good solid rifle for hunting and I'm just glad to enjoy this heirloom.
I really like the stock on the 10-22!

Yeah me too. It's absolutely amazing! He's a true craftsman.

Cool! I have two 1917's in my shop now. One Rem, one Win. Whats yours? The Rem is just a receiver that I'm debating one horse trading for and the Win is a complete and like you mentioned a bastardized sporter. I like the action. Could care less about historical value myself. Very strong and long. Can be used to build big boys on if you got the know how.

Anyways nice rifles!

Remington produced a commercial version of the 1917 Enfield for many year's that was a really nice hunting rifle. IIRC it was called the Mdl 30, same dog leg overbuilt reciever but a downturned bolt.

I'm not sure which I have. Either way I hear it's a very good rifle.
