Just at a guess it look's like you've got a S&W 38/44 HD there, otherwise later known as the M-20. This revolver was made on the N or large frame offered by S&W. Now with that said and the fact photo's can confuse folk's I'll also say the old S&W M&P K frame was also made in the 6" barrel and aside from being a little smaller unless laid side by side could be mistaken for the 38/44. That frosted nickle plate finish doesn't look quite right though, S&W produced a very high grade,bright, nickle finish that held up pretty well.

I was wanting to know a model number the age or around it. I was looking in a gun book the model 64 military police looked like it .some one told me if it was around the war it would not have a model number.

Looks like a basic Military and Police (Model of 1905, 4th change methinks) with modern grips. Eventually known as the Model 10 after model numbering begin in the '50's.

S&W instituted the model numbers in the 1950's. Yours is a Military & Police model made in the early 1920's. This is the most popular S&W revolver ever made. Strictly from the photo, it appears to be in pretty rough shape. If the bore and chambers are still in decent shape (not rusted), and the action works smoothly, it is still probably worth $150.
