selling to CA

Has anyone ever sold to someone in CA, I was going to sell some hicap mags to someone from another site and it appears as tho he is a sacramento sheriff. I have requested him to confirm this and a badge number so I can call to verify with his dept. Think this will cover my butt or would you just blow him off?

Well, it is illegal to sell or import hi-cap mags into CA. The exception being law enforcement. I really don't know the legalities of your situation, but if it were me I'd decline.

I just wouldn't do it. If the every day Joe Blow citizen can't have high cap mags, the police shouldn't either. I'm not a fan of some animals being more equal than others.

I have sold some low capacity magazines to a guy in California; but, other than that (if it was me), I'd decline to sell any firearm or "restricted/regulated" accessory to a person in CA.

Well he got back with me and said he wasnt a leo, but when I googled him from his paypal info he showed up as being on the sheriffs dept., he was new to the site with 0 post and no state shown, thank you TGO for references I have seen on here in the past about the CA unfriendly gun laws. refunded and moving on.

...refunded and moving on.

Wise decision on your part, I think.

Even if the guy was a LEO, you still may have had to use an in state FFL/dealer (because of the Hi-cap) and that can be a real pain.

Sounds like he was trying to get some hi-caps under the radar. Wise choice to move on.

“LEO†or “working in Law Enforcement†are terms that are thrown around pretty fast and loose. There was a guy on another forum that said he was a “a LEO†flapping about vehicle searches. It was clear he didn’t have a clue and he ended up being an IT guy for the department. :D

If someone is telling you they are “a LEO†ask point blank if they are a Police Officer. Lying about being a cop to buy a Police Officer exempt item is a crime. That’s why most places require a letter from the Chief or Sherriff on Department letterhead.

Besides being required to know the laws of the state you are selling to and your own, if you have to send it to CA, your price is too high; drop your price and sell it to someone local. :D

I would not sell it out of sheer stubbornness. When the police have weapons and the public does not, that is a police state. CA is about 1/2 a step away from this.
