I am looking into getting this rifle in the near future, just for something fun and cheap to shoot. Anyone have any opinions or experience with it?

Thanks

My experience with the plinkster was pretty negative (plain jane Mossberg Plinkster). It was a jam-o-matic and atleast a a few times, would 'fire' as it was loading from the magazine. (yep, scary as heck). It was sent to Mossberg but upon return it still would jam (all sorts of ammo). Finally, even Walmart took it back and gave me my $ back. I've heard decent things from others - I guess mine was just a very sour lemon.

Around that price range, you could get a savage or a marlin. For a little bit more, you could get a ruger 10/22 (my personal opinion).

The semi-auto seems hit or miss.

I have the bolt action plinkster, and even had to send that one back, as the locking lugs on the bolt fell out. They couldn't even fix it, no parts for the Brazilian stuff they sell, just sent me a new rifle. It's been okay since, but hasn't gotten heavy use. 110 lb trigger pull.

Looking at the build on it, there's no way these things will last in the same ballpark as Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 60, or most other US made inexpensive .22s.

I had one for a while. it was a good little, no frills at all gun. no customizing, no nothing but it shot just as good as my tricked out 10/22. After a good hand full of rounds it never jammed again. I sold it to a buddy for what i paid for it. at the same time i dont miss it at all.

The M&P 15-22 looks better and performs flawlessly. If you know someone that owns one ask them to let you run a few mags thru it.
