Howdy!

I love this forum! It is full of valuable information and, hmm, colorful opinions!

Though I learned a lot about the mechanics of firearms as a kid, about 20 - 30 years ago, I never used them until this past July 4th. Fired a shotgun for about 10+ rounds. And I got my Glock 17 out of the safe and fired it for the first time in the two years I've owned it, which was this past Saturday, where I also fired a .357 revolver. I must say it was quite an experience. I'm just now erasing the intimidation of firewarms with experience. I have my Sunday school teacher to thank for the use of his land, shotgun, and .357.

As my user id states, I'm interested in building my own firearms. While shooting accurately and consistently is my ultimate goal, shooting accurately and consistently with a handgun or rifle I've put together is the icing on the cake...or the gunpowder in the shell?

The thread on evil black rifles is absolutely *awesome*. I'm thinking a PCF lower and a 22 LR upper would be a good starting point. Not sure about barrel lengths...having a longer barrel would only seem to matter for firing further downrange...and if they can be easily swapped I'd probably start with a short barrel.

Anyway, thanks to the folks that put together and maintain this forum and all the knowledgeable contributors that keeps the ammo makers in business. ;)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Welcome to the forum Bill. Just about all of the thanks goes to TGODavid, who owns, maintains, builds, etc. this site.

As you probably already know, if you have questions there are plenty of people chomping at the bit to answer. Fire away (pardon the pun).

welcome! While I have not made anything from the ground up, modification is fun for me and I make most of my ammo now except .22 and 12 ga and buying some for a reload unfriendly range. Its very satisfying even to just tinker to make something better. 22 LR is a good thing to start with as it is one of the best calibers for practice and range fun due to the costs. I am not 100% sure but you may be able to use a 223 barrel for a 22 LR upper, if you plan to convert to the 223 later on, but someone here can comment on that, I am not an AR expert and just shoot one that is mostly untouched from the factory build.
