The problem I see with "trophy hunters" is that most of the ones I come in contact with are in competition with one another, and end up doing unethical and illegal things in order to get the biggest deer. This gives ALL hunters a bad name. I'd like these people purged from our rolls. If you hunt legally, this shouldn't offend you.

Didn't you get the memo?? We now refer to them as scavengers

Yeah, sick bastards. Guys that kill for antlers and leave the antlerless carcass to rot instead of eating or donating the meat would be considered sick bastards in my book.

I have to say that in my 30 years of hunting experience, I have never witnessed this. I've heard about poaching instances, but hunters don't do this. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I would say it's pretty rare.

I grew up in MD (hunted the Eastern Shore) and Northern OH, so we all hunted trophies. Besides, it's easier to drag a deer out of the woods if he's got big handles attached to his head. Does were considered bait. Bragging rights for a big buck doesn't stop at the neck either: body mass is important too, and it's hard to weigh a deer if you left his carcass in da woods. I have never seen anyone walking out with just a set of antlers, but I've seen many hunters dragging out trophy deer.

For me, I guess you could say that I am a "trophy meat hunter" because I eat (or share) what I kill, but I'm always looking for a big buck. I will kill a doe or a smaller buck if I need to fill my freezer, but my freezer is only so big. However, it is in need of some venison right now, so I will take the first opportunity of the season before I start to get picky.
