I usually carry 2 extra 13 round mags with me when I'm carrying. Everything (gun and mags) is pretty concealed at all times.

1 extra mag for an auto or 5 extra for the revolver

I carry 1 extra mag full. I don't do this for the ammo, but for the ability to quickly fix some problems that may occur with my weapon. Most of us are not likely to be in a position to need a weapon, much less 50 rounds. Some feel the need for more, but I am well satisfied with 2 mags for an autoloader, for the reason stated. If I carried a revolver, I may not carry any extra ammo at all. My 5 rounds would be spent wisely retreating. I'm all for preparing for a situation, but 'diminishing returns' is a description that comes to mind for me.

I carry the short mag in my XD 40 SC which is 9 in the mag and one in the hole and then have an extended mag on me as well which is an additional 11 rounds. with my steyr s9 I have 10 rounds of 9mm in the short mag and have a 14 rounder on me.

13 in the Glock 23 plus an additional 13 in a mag pouch

Most commonly, I'll carry the XD-357 with 12+1, plus a spare 12rd mag, and the P3AT on my weak side holding 6+1.

Sometimes I just carry the P3AT, and no spare mags

Sometimes (rarely) I carry the XD with 3 spare mags and no BUG.

So, anywhere between 7rd and 49rd.

Well . . . I'm kinda like Eddie, I guess . . .

Sometimes it's the 442 and no spare ammo. Sometimes it's the USP and no spare ammo. Sometimes it's both handguns with spare ammo for each. So between 5 and 35 rounds--9 rounds in the USP, 8 rounds each in two spare mags, a cylinder-full in the 442, and a speed-strip with 5 more flying ashtrays.

Most of the time I have a spare mag, sometimes I don't. It's kinda like me carrying, you don't know when I am or not.

I cylinder full of .357mags in the Smith 19, 1 cylinder full in the Smith 642 plus one k-frame speedloader full of .38, so 17 rounds total, plus various caliber bullets I stuck in my jacket pocket that I've forgotten to take out but make good demos.

I'll be the first to admit this is way too much.

Ditto here. Any feedway malfunction is usually resolved more quickly with a fresh mag. The extra rounds are nice, but probably not necessary, although I am not one to rant about the average gunfight being three shots at five yards or whatever. That may be the average, but averages are calculated with highs and lows. Thus, it is entirely possible to attend a gunfight that will require 10 or 12 rounds. Like Tom Givens said, if one foot is on a block of ice, and the other is in a campfire, then, on average, your feet are comfortable.

Can you rattle off how many gunfights needed 10-12 rounds on one side to be resolved? I mean for the private citizen, not LEs. Although even LEs it is pretty uncommon (not counting the current mentality with 50 shots fired and 2 hits).

If I'm carrying my Para Companion, it's a 7-round mag in the gun (plus one in the pipe), and a spare 7-rounder on my side.

For those RARE times I've carried the Glock 19, it's one full 15-round mag, plus one in the pipe.

So, it's 15-16 rounds for me. That should be way more than enough for any gun fight. The spare mag for the Para is mostly for mag-related stoppages, rather than for extra ammo.

Hk USPc .357 sig

Normally... One 10 rd. mag in the pistol.

(Too Cheap to pay $39.99 for a HK 12 rd when I can buy 10 rds. mags for $9.99) I very rarely carry an extra magazine.

When I travel out of state... two extra 10 rd. mags in the truck.

1 17 round mag + 1 chambered so 18 rounds total.

I carry a Glock 22 and a spare mag on me, with J- frame and another G22 mag and spare .38 ammo in my laptop case. Total 68 rds. Can you really have too much ammo?
