Project Appleseed is a nationwide program that teaches rifle marksmanship skills that have been passed down from generation to generation and reconnects Americans with the people and events of colonial America. Participants are taught skills that allow a Rifleman to be accurate out to 500 yards using a standard rifle with iron sights and surplus ammunition. This ability is traditionally known as mastering the "Rifleman's Quarter Mile" and is an American tradition that has been part of this nation from its very first days. So join us and hear some little-known Revolutionary War history, reaffirm your heritage, and make America a better place.

It looks like October is filling up. Have you registered yet?

Bring a 22LR and a 500 brick for Saturday and Sunday for 25 meter and a centerfire and about 60 rounds for KD (known distance, at least 100 yd) on Sunday.

I look forward to seeing you there, I'll be one of the red hats. Introduce yourself please. Also, I see that you're from Knoxville. We are trying to find a range over there that will host Appleseed events. Do you know of any?

Yes! I got registered! I think there were only 5-6 slots still left after mine! Will be good crew. I'll be bringing my 10/22 for the rimfire part. My only centerfire is a 45 colt lever action.....probably not the best, right? Hmmmm...., maybe Santa could bring me something for an early Halloween present--LOL! Which centerfires do folks bring? Semi- or bolt? I'm very newb to rifles and am kinda intimidated by the sample targets I got from Fred's online store--wow....1 "? Whew! Will still have fun even if I don't get the patch the first time! I'll try and remember to wear my TGO hat. Thanks for the post!

Great to hear you got registered. Yeah, the Oct shoot has been filling up for a while. And you're right about the lever action. A lot of our shooting is done prone and using levers prone leads to break in cheek weld and sometimes short strokes which can load improperly. Most of the people just shoot their 22s. We'll show you how a 22 is more than capable to reach out to 100 yds. So if you don't have another centerfire, don't worry.

The Appleseed event was pretty successful; six people wound up the weekend shooting Rifleman (expert marksman on the Army Qualification Target or AQT). Most of these people had limited shooting experience. Rifleman score or Expert Marksman is 210 or better out of a total of 250 points. We even has a 10 year old shoot 226 but with a sand bag for support. The training is that good. A few shoot Rifleman on their first Appleseed but it takes most people 3 or 4 times.

The shooting isn't the only thing that we teach; the history of the founding of this great nation and our common heritage is in the foreground of everything we do at each event. This is to awaken the slumbering American, get them excited about where we come from and get them involved in help moving this country down the right path. So if you're a good shot and love this country, come prove it and volunteer as an instructor.

If you'd like here's a link to the after action report on this Appleseed clinic:

Yes, we have one at Manchester on Nov 12-13. But Rising Fawn, GA is closer to you. That one is Nov 19-20. For more info on the Manchester event go to http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=18658.msg149520;topicseen%23msg149520%20 and for Rising Fawn go to http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=23124.0.

Your avatar looks like you're a reenactor. Am I right? Revolutionary War reenactors get in free while in costume. You may even be asked to demonstrate your musket. PM me if you have any questions.

I'll be one of the "Red Hats" at the Manchester event and I hope to see you there! I'm not sure if I'll be able to make the GA event.
