Any Advice on dealing with UPS?

I have / had a pristine Bushmaster M17S that I was going to have modified by Ken McAlister at K&M Aerospace.

Free plug here - Take a look at Ken's website, he does great work.

Anyway, I shipper the upper to Ken, properly wrapped in bubble wrap and insured, and the rear lower detent pins got bent during shipment. I filed a claim with UPS for damage and they have denied it claiming that the part was damaged either before or after shipping.

Anybody got some advice for dealing with them?

Thanks!

So how exactly did a $2 detent get bent in shipping...and why are you bent about it?

Mr. Garufa, if that is your rear name, you've never looked closely at the upper of an M17S. The upper has two pin holders molded into the extruded aluminum upper. Those pin holders are now bent to hell, and you can't fix 'em. At least I don't think so.

UPS and FedEx deny the majority of first level claims from individual shippers; on the other hand, they usually give big account holders the benefit of the doubt.

About all you can do is go through whatever claim escalation procedure they have; did receiver feller keep the box? Did it show signs of abuse? Will he get involved to swear it was that way when he received it? Not much you can do to prove it wasn't that way on your end when you put it in the box short of taking a pic with it in the box, even though that's not ultimate proof or anything from their point of view.

How did you find out that it was damaged in shipping? If you properly packed/wrapped it, how do you think it got damaged in transit? Could it have been damaged at the destination end when it was unpacked??

We know UPS handles packages with loving care.

I use to ship alot of things UPS. They told that they don't pay attention to the "fragile" label and a good test is to drop it from the waist. I had damaged parts from Cal found it was easier to work with shipper to get repaired than UPS. Sad but true
