HID Headlight Conversion

There is only one thing that I do not like about my new truck. The headlights are not nearly bright enough. I wish Ford would have included HID lights in their Raptors but sadly they have not. There are many companies that sell cheap HID upgrade kits that simply allow you to change the bulb and leave it in the Halogen housing, this not only can blind other drivers but is illegal in most states.

After doing more than a few months worth of research (I researched this awaiting delivery of my truck) I decided to deal with Home - Sick HIDs and let them retrofit my stock headlamps with large shroud 55Watt 6000k HID's while this is expensive to have done, to me it is worth it. I will not blind other vehicles as the shrouds are made for HID lights and the light will not escape, but my headlights will allow me to see approximately 8 times what the stock ones do, I am looking forward to this modification

I agree, rumor has it the 2012 models will but to be honest I would have paid what I did for this truck if it had no headlights at all and I had to supply my own I like it that much

Amen! I'm so tired of these morons throwing the $50 ebay HID kits on their cars and hitting the streets. A halogen headlight housing assembly is not made for HID lights and the glare on other drivers is unbearable!

I know guys, I have been blinded so many times by those I just can't understand how some of those drivers can sleep at night after blinding so many people?

it is worth the money to me to be a considerate driver and to keep others and myself safe by not impairing their vision while at the same time aiding mine

I doubt the 2012 model will come with them either stock or as an option but it's possible I'll be proven wrong. The few SUVs that come with them also have a self-leveling system for the rear suspension to keep the nose of the vehicle at a consistent angle in relation to the road. When you load down a pickup truck, you change the elevation of the headlights. With HID beams this means you go from scorching the pavement to scorching someone's retinas.

This is why Ford didn't do HID headlights on the Raptor, and why they probably won't in 2012 either. If they go with some sort of self-leveling headlight design then I can see it being possible... but I doubt THAT since it would probably give the driver seizures with constant minute adjustments in an off-road setting. I'd probably throw up all over the interior if I had to ride in a truck that had constantly adjusting headlight beams.

I understand putting HIDs on a truck that will see 99.9% pavement use but I'm curious: Why not just augment your existing lights with something like the Rigid dual-driving LED light setup that goes in the stock bumper's wings?

I will be doing the Rigid LED lights in the future, as well as Rigid fog lights and eventually some off road lights as well. The guy that is doing mine has done them on a friend of mine's Raptor already the thing is that I have terrible night vision and I always have our KIA came with stock HID lights, that is the thing these headlights are going to be leveled by the guy that builds them, he is custom building the shrouds and adjusting the angle for my truck, so the beam will be focused better than the stock headlamps.

As far as Rigid, Believe me when I tell you that I badly want their 40 inch LED light bar And their D2 fog light set up I eventually will get them both and wire them to two of the Raptors auxiliary switches. this headlight upgrade for me is just for pavement driving. The guy that convinced me to buy the super crew truck has the driving D2 Rigid white driving fog lights installed in the wings (they look badass) he had Sick HIDs do his headlights afterwards because he said compared to the D2 fogs his headlights his stock headlamps looked like they were coming from a 1972 Ford Pinto with a dying battery...

I hate HIDs. Maybe I just have sensitive eyes but even when a mercedes or some other luxo crap gets behind me, they blind me. HID's are just unnecessary for most city drivers.

However, glad you are choosing to do a retrofit and not a conversion.

Jon, can you not ticket people for their crappy headlights? Is there a law against it or something?

I'm trying to talk myself into doing the ADD Stealth bumper and Rigid LED bar for trail use. I just don't really know if I really want that much metal hanging off the front of another truck.
