Proof of Insurance

Does anyone know where & what form to send for proof of insurance? My know-it-all 19yo son needs to send in proof from a ticket and of course he threw the paper away that they sent him. I found the Dept. of Safety web site but can only find forms or directions if you had an accident or your lisence is already suspended. Thanks in advance

I would guess he has to take it with him to court; but that’s just a WAG.

What Police Department or County was it?

Court date is past and he got a letter in the mail saying to send proof. Fayette Co. and the police here for the most part are NO help and most dont even know the laws......

Not bashing, we have down graded to Traffic officers in the past few years with mostly no experience and paid just above minimum wage and the the statement of the laws was quoted to me by one of our officers when I confronted him about a situation...

Sounds like you have two issues.

Call whoever is on the letterhead and find out where to send it.

If the court date has passed and it hasn’t taken care of the ticket you might want to find out if a warrant has been issued for Failure To Appear.

I would start here…

Great idea Dave, Connie isnt in office anymore but she would probably know what to do and I will ask her or her dad (ex sheriff Kelly) tomorrow in church. Thanks

and he says he did take care of the court but I palnned on checking the status of his lisence on the website. If he wasnt trying to join the airforce I would let him learn an expensive lesson if it hasnt already happened...

If it is a traffic citation that is past due there you shouldn't be a warrant. Ordinances can't summoned through an arrest warrant. Once you miss court the department sends the citation in to the state to have your driver's license suspended. Typically they give you like 30 days after failure to satisfy before sending to TDOS. If it's a county citation you normally have to go to the courthouse with proof of insurance the day of violation and you will probably have to still have to pay a fine due to being late. Try to avoid getting it sent the to state. Once they suspended it you will be looking at a few hundred to get the license reinstated.

I got a ticket and had to send A COPY OF THE TICKET along with proof of insurance to the clerk of courts for the county. You would probably be best served by taking the proof of insurance to the clerk of court in person. That way you know it's wrapped up and done.
