Glad to hear all is well now. I have two of these and have not had any issues with either one.

Mine was having light strike, I cleaned the firing block and pin many times with no change. ended up taking the mag apart and cleaning it as a last ditch before sending it off to ruger. No problems since then. I still can't figure out how the magazine would have caused the light strikes.

Well, it really just can't, simple as that.

If the cartridge is in chamber/battery for the firing pin to strike, the mag has already done its job.

Must have been coincidence of another factor changing at time of cleaning mag.

was afraid of that. am going to take it to range this week, if it continues to have problems I will be sending it in. I was getting 7 out of 10 and sometimes more that would be light strikes using several diff kinds of ammo.

Gotta be something still wrong in firing pin train, or slide not going completely into battery (slide not completely forward) when pin is released. Semi-autos all have some sort of in-battery safety, but it is possible for some to fire being just a hair out of battery; close enough that they are generally safe as far as casing rupture/blow back, but just enough so that firing pin falls that little bit short.

In either case, though, it is not performing correctly and/or safely and needs service. Not to mention that even 1 glitch out of a mag's worth is completely unacceptable for SD purposes.

I may be late to this, but try removing the magazine disconnect and see if you still have the light strike problem. Sounds like you (thedonn) may have or had a magazine seating problem and the mag wasn't disengaging the mag disconnect from the striker correctly.

When I pull the trigger on a pistol expecting a little bit of country and I get a little bit of rock n roll... that is no bueno. I've heard stories that inexperienced shooters will try to toss the gun out of their hands when it goes rock n roll, that would be a scary deal! It was was probably a good thing it only happened on the last 3 rounds during your class as well. I bet it is a simple firing pin issue, maybe out of spec or something. A run away is never a good thing, and dangerous. I'm sure Ruger will get it all taken care of.

Hadn't thought of that thanks for the advice will try that if I have issues with it again, before sending it in. If I do end up having to send it in does the gun have to come back through an ffl?

Not if you are sending it in for service that is the one time that they can ship it directly to you.

Don't get how a mag safety could "partially" not work, but I suppose 'bout anything is possible.

I think there may be something else going on besides the ammo. Still, I've only used WWB ammo, so maybe I should try something else.

At the HCP class I had 5 light strikes out of 48 rounds, twice the trigger failed to reset, and my last three rounds fired with only one trigger pull. (Full auto)

I used both the 10rd and the 17rd mags and had problems with both.

Not sure if ammo can cause all that or not.

Maybe I missed it but did you pass the HCP class or not? In all fairness I too think the RO or instructor should have pulled your weapon from use when it went ratta-tat-tat but on the other hand if you handled the situation properly and made the minimum score you should not have had any problems.

I am really glad Ruger took care of you, I once had a Ruger P95 that had a broken pin, not under warranty nor was I the original purchaser but they took care of it for me! Face it, any mechnicial device can break - its how they handle it that shows if it is a good company or not.
