Hey Y'all,

Cherokee Rod and Gun Club is beginning its season of Modern and Vintage Military Rifle and Pistol Matches next Saturday, March 15th on the lower rifle range. We shoot Modern Military Rifles from 0900-1100, Modern Military Pistol from 1000-1300, Vintage Military Rifle from 1300-1500, and Vintage Military Pistol from 1500-1700. Fees are $5.00 per match.

Rifle matches are 6" bullseye at 100 yards, three 10 shot strings at 10 minutes per string. All shooting is standing, offhand, no shooting aids (shooting jackets or slings, etc.)

Pistol matches are also bullseyes at 25 yards, also standing offhand in three 10 shot strings at 10 minutes per string. Single or double action, one hand or two.

Juniors and disabled persons shoot the course from the bench.

Vintage Military Rifles and Pistols are those adopted by any military force prior to January 1, 1948. Modern Rifles and Pistols are those adopted after that date. Some crossover is ok.....Garands, M1 Carbines, SKS, etc, can be fired in either or both categories. Firearms must be in original, as-issued condition with some specific modifications allowed that do not contribute to accuracy.

If you do not have a gun that meets the criteria for competition, come on over anyway and shoot as a "participant" instead of a "competitor." If you want to bring your scoped deer rifle up and see how you like being on a firing line with a bunch of other bangenboomers, c'mon and give it a try. We want to be as inclusive as possible, not exclusive.

We aren't trying to send anyone to Camp Perry or the Olympics and our rules are not quite as strict as those types of competitions, although our safety standards are every bit as high. We're a bunch of good guys and girls having a heck of a good time. Our youngest participant is a 12 year old girl shooting a thirty carbine from the bench, and we have a gent who shoots the rifle matches with AK 47's and .30 M-1 carbines having folding wire stocks.....that takes GUTS at a hundred yards!! One recent match winner was shooting an 1875 Danish Rolling Block in 7X57mm, and three of our guys shoot Trap Door Springfield .45-70's. We shoot beat up Mosins, K-31's, Mausers, Springfields and guns of all description. We have a strict requirement that if you're gonna laugh at somebody else's shooting, you have to stay on your feet....you can't roll around on the ground laughing! :D Like I said, we're there to have a good hearted, safe, good time.

We rent Garands (2) or M-1 carbines (1), or an AR-15 carbine (1) on a first come first serve basis for $5 per match. Otsix, thirty carbine, and .223 ammo are available at reasonable club prices. (for the matches only-not for general purchase.)

If you have any questions, just PM JayPee. I'm the match director.
