Carrying while running

I read 10 Commandments of Concealed Carry by Massad Ayoob where commandment #1 is "If you Carry, Always Carry." Admittedly new to carrying . . . does anyone carry while they are running/jogging? If so, what do you carry when running and how do you carry it?

I don't put a shirt on until at least November, so I use a NAA Mini in .22mag either just in the pocket of my running shorts or in a "holster" I sewed into the leg of some Under Armor shorts on the outside of my thigh.

I am going to say this in the straightest way possible . . . Mac, I want to see your underwear.

Seriously though, at somepoint, I would like to see how you sewed the "holster" into your under armor.

Smart Carry/ThunderWear or Fanny pack. Most small revolvers and semi autos can be carried in the Smart Carry/ThunderWear type system without much trouble. I would recommend wearing some sort of undergarment like Second Skins under your running shorts with a crotch holster to avoid chafing. I also have a MountainSmith fanny pack I use for nutrition like Hammer Gel and Enduralytes in the front, and a small pistol/revolver in the back portion. Granted it's not a fast access, but you are still armed and that is rule #1.

To paraphrase Mae West: "Is that a pistol in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

What he said.......Ruger LCP in SmartCarry Holster.....Wear the SmartCarry over a pair of Under Armour compression shorts...has worked for me since 2007 or so...

No. I still carry on my thigh. Pistol on one side. Spyderco on the other.

I cut a slot into the outside thigh of a pair of under armor compression shorts. I whip stitched the sides so the don't fray. Behind that, I sewed in a piece of coated neoprene to make a pocket. I then ran the sewing machine along a rough outline of the pistol to make the "holster". I have a pair that work well with an LCP and a pair that I made for the mini. Throw on a pair of normal running shorts over the top, and you can't tell I'm carrying, and it doesn't move or bother me a bit. It's also immediately available if I need it.

If you're attacked by StrickJ and you shuck your shorts in the middle of it to go for your gun, he'll probably be confused and think you're just surrendering.

Mac, you know there is probably a huge market out there for someone to create and sell something like this....

You've got to be pretty particular about the maintenance of your weapon when you run and sweat as much as I do. Even if the potential market was great, I don't know that I'd be up for the hassle of dealing with all the people who had their P3ATs rust because they don't know how to wipe them down and prevent corrosion.

I've found one of these that works for my P3AT:Revel Sports® FuelBelt Wachusett Belt

I wear it high enough to be covered by a loose T-shirt and a pocket holster fits pretty securely into a spot where one of these small bottles would go.

Lately I've switched back to cycling which is even easier. Just slip a pocket holster into jersey pocket which is even easier. Either way I can work with a 5:00 position so everything feels familiar.
