Sig P220 and SWC's

I loaded a batch of 200 grain SWC's in 45ACP. My main use is in my Colt Commander and they feed fine in that pistol. I seat the bullets fairly deep, usually the lip of the bullet right above the edge of the case mouth, around 1.240" OAL. I had recently picked up a Sig P220 and a Beretta PX4 in 45 so I thought I would run some through both of those. No problem with the Beretta but the Sig just choked on those SWC's. The slide actually jams against the next round in the mag and locks the pistol up. I was just wondering what others experience may have been with the P220?

All of my 220's choked on SWC. Even the famed Remington 185 Match 185gr's. Even my friends 220 choked on SWC.

I believe it is the ramp and throating of the barrel. All of my 1911's from officer to full size, no matter what the price point feeds them well.

I am sure someone more knowledgeable than I can weigh in.

I just loaded some 188gr LCSWC which ran flawlessly through my Sig 220. I set my OAL at 1.26.

I did have a couple of FTFeed in a FS 1911, but not ready to attribute those to the bullet because most cycled with no problem.

Hi all. I am a new reloader (since April-May this year) so my initial results are due to plain 'ole inexperience. My P220 had multiple failure to feed incidents with 185 grain JHPs that were seated too shallow. I identified this error and seated the next batch well within specifications. However, the problem has not gone away, and I'm still fine tuning to see what she likes best. I was using Winchester primers and Hogdon HP-38 powder. I'm seeing improvement, but certainly not satisfied.

I have also been loading for a Glock 23 Gen. 4 .40 S&W and a S&W .44 Magnum with no issues to report.

I had a fit with a batch of 185 JHP's. No matter how much I crimped they wanted to set back. I reduced the size of my expander, shortened the expander also. some of the bullets were a little under sized at .4505" but still they should not have been setting back so easily. I never fully solved that problem but most of what I load is lead swc's and 230 grain ball. Never had a problem with those. Check you bullets and make sure they are not undersized, check to make sure your neck expander is not oversized and crimp tightly. Make sure the brass is within spec. Had a bunch of bad cases once. Other than that, I can't think of any thing.

Yes sir, I double checked that and seated this last batch at 1.188 overall cartridge length. I loaded them using a 7 grain Winchester Autocomp charge and 185 grain JHP bullets. My Sig P220R cycled well each time with no stove-piping. Happy now, except Autocomp powder is a little dirtier than I expected, but happy nonetheless.
