Considering Buying Land To Shoot And Camp On?

I am considering buying 5+ acres (inexpensive) to shoot and camp on in Ashland City. I found an interesting lot, it is zoned residential, and outside the city limits. There is nothing but woods in this area, however, I don't want to get stuck with a lot I can't shoot on.

Any advice?

Tell you what, if you find something and you make a deal and there is any other land in the general area let me know because I've thinking about doing the exact same thing.

How easy is it to access? How often do you expect to use it? How much maintenance is needed? How far away are the neighbors?

Unfortunately you also have to consider people dumping or otherwise doing illegal things on your property, and the consequences of such things.

Have to agree with the above. I live on 11 acres in Wilson County, and have posted the entire acreage with signs every 50 feet along the periphery.

My neighbors are probably on my land three days a week via foot or 4 wheeler.

They dump their trash over my fence creating a 10 foot junk zone.

I do have a 50' range in the center of the property, but I have second thoughts about using it due to the constant flow of trespassers. I have an ok backstop, but would hate to deal with backlash of a 44 mag hitting some kid wandering through.

I pushed with the Sheriff's Department 13 years ago when I first moved in, but they wouldn't do anything due to lack of evidence and general "You're in the country now, deal with it" attitude.

I was in Hickman county last year, it is not what it used to be. The deer are mighty thin now. Almost everything is posted. Dad and I did not have any success finding any private land to hunt so we had to hunt the public land and that has been turned into pine Forest. We probably won't be going back there.

I know some good places but they are posted all to hell. I now some places there I would love to own as well. About 20 years ago, we killed a number of deer down there.

I say we all pitch in and buy about 25 wooded acres and put our campers on it and share the fun

i live in cheatham co shoot in my yard which is out in the co had the sherriff called on me 1 time .the deputy had never shot a 50 bmg i still shoot in my yard i have 3 acres i shoot into a hill behind my house as long as its in the county you are good to go

Growing up in the country, I would shoot in my backyard all the time. Had a good backstop.

The only thing, mom always made me set up some bottle rockets first to warn neighbors before I started shooting.

About a half mile a away a county Duty lived. He took home his monthly practice ammo and he shot all the time too. So it really was no big deal.

Funny I go home now, I am not allowed to shoot in the back yard. They have less neighbors but mom worries I will scare the dogs so I have to go up in the mountains and find other good back stops. Just means some good 4 wheelers time.

some times i shoot my civil war morter 6 0z of black powder will send a bowling ball way down the river i live on the river i used to shoot it a lot i guess thats why i wear hearing aids

i recently got a price on land out in the woodlawn area down dotsonville road and its not what id still consider cheap.

I live north of watertown in wilson county and every time i shoot most of my neighbors just try to one up me and we usually end up at the same house talking shop

I lived on 55 Acres just past Statesville for a couple of years. Whenever I think about a place to shoot, etc, I really miss that place.
