Holster for Ruger sp101

I'd like to hear what anyone has to say about pocket holsters for a sp101 or j frame. My 1911 is under construction, so im carrying a snubbie (for the first time) til it's done. I know I like belt and iwb holsters a lot after carrying an auto in one or the other over the course of 13 years, but i'm not sure how I feel about a pocket holster in my front pocket. I hope to hear from those of you who have already done the homework. Please let me know how it's worked for you. Thanks!

The SP101 is a great little gun, but with all-steel construction, it's a bit heavy for pocket carry. When I wear khakis, it bulges out (and not in a good way). Jeans hold it a bit better, but it's tight in the pocket and is hard to draw. I prefer to carry it on my belt. For pocket carry, I go with my smaller, lighter S&W 640PD.

I agree that it's a heavy gun, but I still pocket carry mine when I have loose fitting cargo pants or shorts. It doesn't feel much heavier than when it's iwb or owb. I use a DeSantis Nemesis and don't find it to be an issue, but I'm a big guy and I assume my pockets are bigger than someone's who wears a size 30.

I carry mine in much the same way as BigK, DeSantis Nemesis. I started wearing Tru/Spec 24/7 type paints and shorts. Pockets in these are larger than normal paints.

I've tried the Nemesis in regular Levi's or khakis and it was way too obvious. I prefer baggy Eotac or 5.11 type pants/shorts too, so it's not a problem. I just put it in a Don Hume IWB when I don't have big pockets.

Thank you all for the info. I ordered the nemesis and should get it middle of this week. I have a galco speed paddle for it but it's not exactly built for concealment. Most of the pants I wear are baggy enough to accommodate pocket carry.

My SP101 is the 3" version, so my holster selection is a little more limited, and for me it rules out pocket carry. I picked up a Blade Tech IWB holster a couple weeks ago, and so far I like it. Not as comfortable as a Comp-tac or Crossbreed, but not bad.

The SP (with hammer) was my first carry gun, so I have a rather extensive collection of holsters...

Step 1 was to get GOOD BELT. Helps to offset the weight for pocket carry.

Started with the Don Hume pocket holster. Beautiful piece of leather, but I didn't take the time to fully break it in, holds the pistol VERY securely; so not a quick draw rig.

Got a generic Simply Rugged, easier to draw, but it will move around in your pocket.

Then tried OWB with a Bianchi, I don't like OWB, so it quickly ended up in the box.

Switched to IWB with a $12.00 Uncle Mikes. Didn't hold the pistol securely, ended up in the box

Then I got a Kholster. Takes 50+ draws to break it in and is very comfortable. It too is in the box, though I use still use it on ocassion.

Currently using the High Noon Hidden Ally. Easy on and off, easy draw and holds the pistol securely. Only draw back is a softer leather, so when you do draw, the holster collapses so re-holstering is not fast nor easy.

If I went back to dedicated pocket carry, I would look at a Nemesis or similar type of rig.

Personally I don't like pocket carry in jeans, but have been most comfortable with fuller cut pants, either dress or khaki-style with pleats as opposed to flat front.

Lately I have been looking at ankle holsters for the SP. A lot of feedback has been "too heavy for comfort"

I appreciate all the replies. I got my holster on Tuesday and have carried it since. Even with the larger hogue grip, it hides very well in cargo pants and shorts. It's a bit bulky for jeans and dress pants, but the holster rides well tucked iwb when I wear a good belt. I am as happy as I can be with this as my carry rig til I get my baby. Thanks again for the info. Zulu
