Tullahoma Elections

For anyone who votes in Tullahoma, my opinion of the candidates are:

Mayor - I only moved back to Tullahoma in 2008, so my perspective on the Mayoral race is limited.

I only know that Troy Bisby supported the guns in parks issue and appears to be very much in favor of individual rights. I found no record of his contributions to federal candidates. He seems to be conservative.

Lane Curlee is a former Tullahoma Mayor and Democrat State Representative. He is a client and very nice guy. I don't know much about his political perspectives, but know he's very involved in non-profit ventures to support those in need. The FEC database shows one contribution from Lane to a Democrat candidate for the House of Representatives.

Alderman - I'm only voting for one candidate so that I don't accidentally push a second choice past my first choice.

Scott Shasteen - My first choice. He is a strong fiscal conservative, pro-gun and individual rights. He served a previous term as a Tullahoma Alderman, but chose to not run for reelection in order to have time for his daughter's last years in high school.

Jerry Mathis - Was very much against allowing guns in parks, and specifically ignored the Attorney General's opinion regarding the issue of guns in parks during a school sponsored function such as a sporting event. He did not seem to care to hear the other side. Jerry is on the TSSAA board and was probably involved in that organization taking a strong position against the issue. He will likely push the issue again if reelected.

Mike Stanton - Was against guns in parks, but said that in listening to both sides he would reconsider. However he did second a motion by Jerry Mathis to ban guns from city parks and voted for the ban (along with Alderman Jimmy Blanks... it failed 4-3).

There is another candidate. I do not know his name or anything about him. I was unable to attend any of the candidate forums.

The only position I am publicly taking on the Tullahoma elections is to encourage others to support Scott Shasteen and only vote for one alderman candidate.
