What is your SHTF plan?

What would be your general shtf plan for whatever, to keep with this forum topic - lets say a zombie outbreak.

For me?

If at home - I don't have a full on bug out bag or supplies yet at the house, still a work in progress. I would just grab the firearms, family and make for the national guard armory which is about a mile away from my house. They have a heavy steel fence that would prove difficult for zombies to clime, but would allow easy shooting through. Being an armory, there would be abundance of firearms and munitions available, plus living quarters etc.

If at work - Make for my dad's house which is fairly close by. Organize a small party to get to my brother's house to add an additional gun to the team, then go for my fiance which would stay holed up at the house until I came.

If out and about with family - use my every day carry sparingly and try and get to a gunstore, walmart, anything for at least more ammunition and hopefully long guns of some sort. Then make way to somewhere to defend.

I think all of these plans would eventually involve making towards a local military compound, the armory I mentioned in my first option still seems the best based off the layout and size of the fence. Even if it did not have all the supplies needed on hand, it would be a good base to scavenge from and has plenty of room for a large group of people (hundreds if necessary, but I don't know if I would be that generous in a zombie apocalypse), if the weak can't defend themselves or be useful in some way, they get no refuge. I would want to keep things low key while at the compound and not draw attention from other survivors. If they were smart enough to go their on their own, they would be welcomed - but I wouldn't be blasting over short range radios "to come on over ya'll, we're havin a bbq!"

Personally, I don't like the military compound idea. That scenario forces me to take orders from someone else, who just like me, wants to survive. I'm sure my best interests would be a distant second to theirs. I guess I will have to hole up at my secret spot and hope for the best.

No, you have to know your area well, you have to be prepared, and you have to dig in....well unless you're forced to move because of some disastrous calamity. It's going to be a waiting game right off the bat. One needs to be able to stay put and well hidden and well protected for a minimum of a month. Preferably several. Let the peons thin themselves out. The morons will render themselves extinct saving you time, supplies, stress and ammunition.

Think chess, Pawns always move and die first.

lets say that if you have a SHTF plan the first rule is to keep it to yourself and those immediately involved in it.

lock the doors grab the Mountian dew, fill the tub, clean out the cabinets then head up to the second floor, destroying the stairs after of course. At this point when I situated I would draw the curtains, shut my mouth, grab a book and wait until my 7 day emergency supply dwindels. Keep in mind that I would also keep tabs on which neighbors flee and who appears infected, yah gotta know which houses to raid :)

The largest problem with most zombie plans is that everyone thinks they need to be on the move. It does not take a genius to know that when the SHTF that if you move you are on the offense, and as we all know the offense is ALWAYS at a disadvantage since you have to react on the move as opposed to defense where you have the luxury of planing, observing and resting.

Now this Is not a permanent plan BUT it will keep me safe and in a familiar local until I assess what the hell is going on. Also If I stay put I can have accesse to more supplies and ammo than I could carry by myself ;P

My main reason for moving right off the bat so that I can get to a place to hole up, my home is not suitable. Its small, open, vulnerable, and in a very populated area. No basement, no second floor, no attic. My first objective is to get to my family members off the start and then get to a place to hole up.

Sounds like when you can afford it, move.

Ohh, I done promised the wife, in the aftermath we're heading to Belle Meade. I'm going to take a bath in one of those multi million dollar mansions, then I'm gonna crap in one of those thousand dollar toilets and not flush! Course, there'll be no running water so I really can't, but hey.

....maybe I'm sharing too much here:)

Just make sure, whatever you do, for God's sake... DON'T SHOOT BILL MURRAY!

:)

As for me, my plan is to read everyone else's plans and take advantage of whatever ideas I can make use of..... keep 'em coming boys!

Ill have to dig in. Fortunately I have a second story to my house with one stair case going up. I really need to invest in more supplies though. Having young children makes it hard to "bug out".

I will be staying put.

Everyone who didn't prepare will be out moving. I don't for a second think I will be the last man on earth. Which means every Tom, Dick and Harry will be headed to Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and the National Guard Armory. Not to mention the soldiers will still be there.

I will sit at home and wait it out. After my food runs out, I assume that 90% of the population will have already won a Darwin Award of some form, that is when I will venture out.

Hopefully the 10% that didn't win a darwin award are friendly to the fellow survivor. ;)

It would be nice, but I am not gonna count on it.

Actually, with all due respect nysos, you'd be a fool to even consider it. Please don't.

Survivors may or may not be cut throats like a pirate, but I'll bet you a days worth of grain that they'll be the hardest folk out there. Cold on the surface if not to the core. Kindness will not quality that will get you far during the turmoil.

Even good men; When a man sees his wife and child are hungry, sick or on the edge of being so, that man becomes INFINITELY more dangerous than anything most of us can fathom (given the man loves his family like a real man should) It's a heartbreaking truth that a good man can and does have the propensity to commit the most heinous of acts to save his family. It's scary to know a man that really loves his family would sacrifice his very soul to see them taken care of.

To add prospective to this, I ask every one of you a question, and I ask that you don't answer it aloud, just be honest with yourself. What would you be capable of? You can see the ribs poking out of your 5 yr old sons sides because he hasn't had a REAL meal in months. Your wife has ________(insert pandemic affliction) and across the way a man has food and medicine. Despite your pleading begging and offering him your life, he will not help you. You rifle is loaded, and then....your son starts to cry.

These are the days foretold when men will beg for death and it will come not. I'm certain no one really appreciates me bringing this kind of thing up, but think on it. GOD help us. Ya'll be safe and pay attention.

Well, I'm going to lowe's. I always have enough ammo for intial outbreak and can raid gun stores on the way or after. Why Lowe's you ask, well because there entrances are easily fortified, there outside area is fenced and has enough area to start growing your own crops. Needless to say there enormous amount of materials and tools. Plus You can get a large size truck in there loading areas to "Prepare".

Thats actually not a bad idea. Could even use all that lumber to build a fortified entrance that doubles as a zombie shooting gallery should they break in!

And yes, the 10% survivors thing was in good humor. I should have worded it "better hope that the 10% that survive are friendly, etc." If things were to break down, I wouldn't trust anyone aside from my family and extremely close friends, and sorry to say it - but most of my friends probably wouldn't make it very long in a society breakdown type scenario.

I'm heading to the nearest airport and making the control tower my "home." Good view, Should have a decent generator, should have a few good antennas to hook up my ham radio, Would have facilities, and most important... way up there! Can lock the bottom door and the top so zombies shouldn't be a problem. Climate controlled tower with tinted windows. Perfect!:tough:

Unless, of course, the zombies are flying planes!! :tinfoil::eek::panic:

I had the same idea of going to the nearest armory until I talked to a few of my buddies about what is kept there. No ammo. At all. Unless you find an ammo dump. Think closest one is around Nashville. Other than that issue I think I'd still make a stop. Still lots of weapons, NVGs and Humvees. That is if no one else is there. If Gaurds are there probably wouldnt stop, might run the risk of getting shot at.

I was just thinking on the way to work this morning while looking at the lake, living on a houseboat in a secluded cove might be a good idea - assuming the zombies can't swim. Take a canoe and paddle to a dock for foraging outings, or just a canoe in general for most transportation. Can haul a decent amount of items, and pretty silent too. Maybe a small boat with an electric trolling motor, can keep on the move quietly & can keep moving if you have to shoot at something compared to paddling.

The armory is a no-go. There is no way the commander in charge will leave the light on for you. I was in the guard and it is correct that no ammo is left on sight. They don't keep the weapons in the lobby either. First there is a metal door to get into the supply room. Not impossible, but not easy to open. Next is the vault that the weapons are in. This is the impossible one. Next is the lock that holds the weapons in the rack. Again, not impossible but not gonna be easy. Lastly you would need to contend with a smaller safe that houses the bolts, yes bolts are locked separately from the firearms. They also don't typically keep food like MRE's on site. That stuff is delivered for the weekend or training event at hand.
