Injecting Ammo with Nicotine...WTF?

First, I'm new here so I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this, but it seemed appropiate....

I just read this article about the gunman in Norway: Did Norway shooter inject bullets with poison? - World news - Europe - msnbc.com

And it states that he planned to inject 3-4 drops of pure liquid nicotine into the hollow-point bullets he was using. Now, in an effort to keep this thread on track... I'm not trying to discuss his political agenda or anything. (the guy is obviously a nutjob... but I digress...)

My question is simply, is this even possible? Because according to the article the police seem to think so. I wouldn't think that you could manage to actually "inject" a liquid into a bullet, and simply placing a few drops inside the cavety wouldn't work as the liquid would just pour out once you turned it sideways. But again, the police seem to think he may have actually been able to do it. But it just doesn't sound feasable to me... insane, yes... feasable, no.

:screwy:

Haven't you ever watched Jaws 2 when Roy Schneider pours poison into a hollow point and covers it with wax?

Nope, never saw Jaws 2, I missed that one.

Gangs have been known to smear feces into hollow point cavities during shootings with rival gangs. Obviously a disgusting attempt to cause a major septic reaction to any non life threatening hits. I don't think a poison HP is a very viable weapon, but when animosity runs so high, reasoning begins to fail.

Nicotine is a poison. It has been used in pellet pistols and rifles in the past. Problem is anything organic in a normal velocity bullit will burn up and be ineffective. Mercury is the viable medium for firearms. It still has to be sealed so as not to vaporize from heat and pressure. I am not familiar with any poison or toxin that is usable beyond the airgun/bolt/arrow/dart velocities. The heat and pressure of the HV delivery system will incinerate the payload.

Just my experience.

Cheers,

P.S. Just remembered G.Gordon Liddy was said to carry a Walther target pellet pistol with Nicotine filled pellets.

It does not take a lot of nic to be deadly. Pure Caffine may work too, amongst other things. But as others said it probably isnt easy to make such a thing work due to velocity and temp etc. The feces thing probably does not work well either, temp would kill the bacteria same as it would burn up other things, most likely. Someone once said superglue a small pistol primer inside the hollow point area would probably be more effective than trying for a toxic payload. I dunno. I assume there are solid toxins that could be made to survive the environment and that a HP delivery is possible, but I have no clue what methods would work to secure the payload and ensure that it were left in the body rather than pushed on thru, very difficult to do that IMO.

See, those were pretty much my thoughts as well. The method used to actually secure something like that. The article only says "injecting" which suggests a syringe but of course this IS the media we're talking about....

:usa:

But that the police seemed to think that he very well could have done it is what got me thinking and wondering how on earth it would possibly work, because my first reaction would be "no, you can't do that". :shake:

First time I ever heard that. My gang is way behind the times I guess. While I enjoy throwing poop at people from time to time as much as the next guy, I have never thought of putting it into the cavities of my hollow point bullets. Thanks for the tip ;) .

My guess is the primer would ignite inside the barrel from heat. It could cause all kinds of problems. I'm sure if it can be done it's somewhere on YouTube.

I think it would be borderline for say a 45 acp. A slow moving 45, esp if under-loaded a bit to make it work, probably is not hot enough on the nose of the round to ignite it. Hard to say, I agree someone should have tried it by now.

Years ago a company loaded and sold .45acp explosive ammo. Don't remember the weight had about a .22l worth of powder. They worked fine through my commander. Would only explode when hitting something hard and stable i.e. car door, glass. Just another funky round not effective but cool effects. No real penitration. Mercury is still your best bet.

I'd be afraid the corn and sesame seeds would jam up my pistol.
