Making a ramp for my landscape trailer. I need some expanded metal for the deck. 5'x6' to be exact. Only place I have found it wants $188 for a 4x8 sheet.

Any leads on a cheaper place. Nashville area. Don't care if its used.

Sexton welding here in Tullahoma is where I bought my last sheet. About 50min or so from you I guess. Can't remember what I paid but it was way less than that unless steel prices have just gone through the roof.

Depending on when you bought, steel may have gone through the roof. Scrap is bringing about $240.00 a ton right now.

Try KGS Steel, Oneal Steel, and Besco metals. There's another place in Nashville that starts with an L, but I can't recall the name right now.

That said, try scrap yards. I'm sure you have some around Columbia. There are several up here north of Nashville, but by the time you make the drive it may be cheaper to just buy new.

I found some at a fairly decent price on Amazon. They just have everything!

I like McMaster-Carr. Their catalog may as well have been the Sears Wishbook of my youth. I don't know that I'd ship steel from them, though.

I've gotten a lot of stuff from OnlineMetals over the years.

Find a welding and fab shop, and ask to look through their remnants and cut-offs to see if you can find enough for your project. Letting them know it's a cash deal often helps make this cheaper, too. This scrap was generally left over from a job they already got paid for, so you can get better deals.

This. Compared to steel places, there's tons of welding shops. And more than likely, they'll have a piece close to what you want.

Good luck.

Check with a trailer manufacturing place if you have one nearby. Possibly they would have a piece with an imperfection that they would not put on a new trailer but for a ramp would suffice. And, consider a couple smaller pieces scabbed together on a frame or brace. Yeah, I don't believe you would want to ship metal very far, especially a piece that size.
