Think I could get some custom wood grips for it to add a little style though?

Sadly, I'm almost positive that this project was rejected additional funding from some of the dems in washington...shocker! They also de-funded laser weaponry due to the fact that it was potentially dangerous and hard to contain on ships. Duh! That's why it needs to be funded and tested further in order to perfect and harness it. Not being political but I can't help but think that discontinuing space flight and cutting funding for new technological weapons will certainly make us weaker. Anyways...cool video!

The theory of a railgun is that it is one of the few possible methods that is feasible at getting an object to travel at near light speed. Besides a weapon, it is a research goldmine due to the nature of the device and that goal. It just so happens that things that go really really.....really fast happen to blast holes through things they come in contact with, so it would make a good weapon too. I don't know if research has been cut, but even if it has I would only see it as temporary. Someone/some country/maybe even our own, eventually will pick back up researching it. The railgun isn't going anywhere.

i'll get excited when EMP guns come out in handgun form, so when I see some jackwagon doing 55 mph in the fast lane, I can put an emp round on his trunk and disable his car permanently. :D

Yeah the hand held railgun will be great except for tons of batteries required to operate it. :D A brave man will be required to fire one in the rain. High voltage capacitor banks-- Driving rain-- What could go wrong?

We also need the pocket nuclear generator.

Given the pocket nuclear generator, maybe it would be better to carry a maser pistol rather than rail pistol? In case of home invasion you get well-cooked burglars. X-ray laser pistol would be even more gooder, but that might take a little longer to perfect.

It has been cut but hopefully it will come back like you said.

Yea, takes me back too.

" Earth Star Voyager is the name of a science fiction television movie shown on the Wonderful World of Disney in 1988. "

At one point they bring on board some crazy guy who puts together a rail gun.

and it is actually on youtube.   Just for the hell of it, I re watched it sometime in the past year.  science fiction has changed allot.
