seeking knife folks wisdom...

I'm no knife expert, a simple sog folder suits my need and ego just fine. That being said, I'm posting to get knowledgeable info from an expert. I have what is best described as an old imported exotic lock back. It doesn't have any markings other than some artwork on the blade that's mostly faded off. I've never seen another like it since I got it approximately 15 years ago from my parents who bought it at a years at a yard sale. Thanks!Snapbucket pictures by durtyzulu - Photobucket

what markings, if any (even a single letter or symbol) are on the blade, up near the hinge? Usually a trademark or something there.

No markings on the blade other than the artsy stuff. Pops said he thought it was possibly an assassin blade due to the pointed blade, but the wide rounded portion is like a straight razor. I'm not assuming that it's a priceless relic, just a cool sturdy knife.

That is the style. Without any markings it is as close as you'll get to the provenance.

That looks a lot like this:

ANTIQUE 19th C. SPANISH NAVAJA NAVAHA CLASP KNIFE *VGC*

do you agree?

jonin, that's it! i'm pretty stoked to know where it came from and more so that someone helped to find the info. i must've not been looking hard enough, most my knife research consists of a search on amazon. as for the knife itself, it was a hand me down and not one i typically use, it will go back to the wooden ammo box in the closet with the other hand me downs i don't use but won't get rid of : )

Glad to be helpful. I did a google image search 3 or 4 different ways until I found a close image, which got me the navaja keyword, once I searched that + knife, I got some good images and picked the one with a decent paragraph on the topic to link at you. Sheer dumb luck though, I was about to surrender when I found the first image and navaja name associated with it.

Armed with that you can research it to your heart's content, once you know the style and proper name of it you can really dig.
