Got really lucky today.

Hey guys.

I decided to go to the Dalton, GA gun show today, and I am glad I went. I ran across something I have never seen before. I found a mint Chris Reeve 4" Kathathu. There were just 100 of these knives made in 2000 - 2001. I must admit that I was definitely getting a build up of saliva as I was inspecting it. I have been wanting to get a double-edged Microtech A.D.O. for quite some time and right now they are running around $699. To find a CR double-edged one piece, which is what Microtech copied for their ADO, for almost a third of the Microtech price definitely made my day. The only downside was the dealer did not have the box and born-on certificate.

Here is my new knife.

Great find. I managed to get a reeve 1 of 25 at a olivebranch show. Now if I could just find an excaliber I'd feel that I had a complete rpresentaion of his work.

Cheers,

I'm feeling pretty good right now. I just got back home from a week long golfing trip at Myrtle Beach. I spoke to the people at Chris Reeve Knives and they told me they would reissue a certificate and box for my knife if I send it in to them for a total cost of $14. I thought that was pretty cool of them.

I was browsing ebay a moment ago, and I noticed someone has a 5.5' Kathathu for sale. The auction still has a day to go and the price has already reached > $1100. If I wanted to sell it, I could make a serious profit, but I think I am gonna hang on to it for a while. Steve, do you think this knife will continue to increase in value, or do you think it has pretty much plateaued?

Eric,

If I were you I would keep it, I have sold many knives for a serious profit and later regretted getting rid of them. I do personally believe the value will go up in the future as that is such a rare blade, so again if you do not need the money from the profit that you could make now, I would keep it. By the way that is awesome that Chris and company will send you the paperwork and box which will make it only increase in value :)

I just looked at that knife on EBay,you need to find out if that was a collaboration with Scott Cook the seller of the one on EBay claims that one is, it will be worth more if it it as Scott's work fetches some serious money. You should buy yourself a large Insingo Sebenza you already know how good Reeve fixed blades are his folding knives are outstanding as well

From the information I could find, the 9" and 5.5" Kathathus were hand ground by Scott Cook, whereas the 7.5" and 4" were hand ground by Chris Reeve.

Well... I don't need any money, so I guess I will keep it. Thanks.

I sent my knife to CRK a couple of weeks ago for authentication and to get a new box and certificate. I received it back today. CRK charged me a whopping $0.00, and they paid for the return shipping as well. Not only does CR make fantastic knives, they have incredible customer service as well. It is too bad that CR knives are pricey, but you get what you pay for. I wish everyone could see the quality and craftsmanship that is put into their knives.

You are absolutely correct they are worth every cent and more than they charge in my humble opinion. You still need to pick up a Sebenza if you have not and see just how awesome they are as well
