Beretta Question

Can you convert the 96FS 40 caliber into 92 FS 9 mil? I have read lots of different opinions about it and I realize that a 92 police trade in is not that expensive but I have just put the new Crimson Trace Laser on my 96 and if I could just change out the barrels and mags -that would be awesome! Anyone near Knoxville with a 92FS wanna try? Hope that I am not posting a previously asked question, I searched the forum and did not find anything.

Yes, all you need is the complete upper, mags are the same. So long as the 96 upper is going on the 92FS lower you are good to go. you can find a complete 96 for just a little more than what the conversion kit cost, so not a hard decision

Ok, so I have the 96- do I just need to buy the 92 barrel?

No, you need a barrel, slide, and locking block.

As for the mags I have measured the lips on a 9mm and a 40, they measure out the same so I suppose the 40 mags will work.

Thanks guys! I love the 40 caliber but sometimes it would be nice to have the choice. Now if I could only find a better way to carry - I hate to resort to using my purse but at times that is all I can do. Wish there were more women involved daily on this forum, and there could be, can't exactly tell sometimes if they are male or female! Any ladies out there with suggestions on conceal carry with a full size weapon?

Hi CLC

Others can fill in details. I've never had a brigadier slide, but that is a 92 slide built somewhat heavier-duty than the standard 92 slide.

I don't know how difficult it would be to buy one, but if one went on a hunt for a 92 slide, maybe a brigadier heavier slide would offer some advantages. It has advantages for certain modifications of the gun, but even if having no intention of further modifications, if the price was about the same I think I'd rather have the heavier slide, but could be wrong. Maybe there would be disadvantages for all I know.

First they are BERETTAs, second I have just as many 96's as 92's, the 92 is a 9MM the 96 is a 40S&W.

Oh and just for the record BERETTA makes some nice 45's also.
