Great encounter in Bartlett

Recommended Posts

Posted

Long story short my wife was hurt at work Sunday. She was knocked out for a short time and was transported by the Bartlett Fire Dept. to St Francis hospital in Bartlett. She informed the FD crew of her permit and that she was armed. It was a non-issue to them and the informed her that they would take care of it at the hospital. Now at the hospital there are ghost buster signs but no legal ones. Once at the hospital she was told by hospital staff it was ok to keep it on her person and if they did need to do any test that would effect her the would hold the gun in their safe until I could pick it up for her. I just want express my thanks to the Bartlett FD and to St Francis for using common sense and making this a great encounter.

From Tennessee and proud of it.

the ghost buster sign is legal in Tennessee. i am not sure what the circumstances mean when your a ER patient brought in by ambulance to be treated as your wife was, its not like she walked into the hospital on her own and just ignored the sign.

Cadillacdude,

If I am reading the law correctly, the ghost buster sign is not legal by itself. The law states that it can be used in addition to the sign "pursuant to ...." The phrase "In addition to the sign," means you can use the ghost buster with the sign, not instead of the sign. At least thats what I always understood. Could be wrong. Does anybody else have an opinion on this?

Yes the signs have to have wording substantially similar to the the following.

PURSUANT TO § 39-17-1359, THE OWNER/OPERATOR OF THIS PROPERTY HAS BANNED WEAPONS ON THIS PROPERTY, OR WITHIN THIS BUILDING OR THIS PORTION OF THIS BUILDING. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS PROHIBITION IS PUNISHABLE AS A CRIMINAL ACT UNDER STATE LAW AND MAY SUBJECT THE VIOLATOR TO A FINE OF NOT MORE THAN FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($500).

We ignored the signs when we picked her up.

notice may also include the international circle and slash

This does not read to me that a cirlce and slash is good enough by itself

It's great to read a positive story like this. I think a lot of people are tired of the crime and are slowly coming around. Maybe not arm them selves in all cases but they respect peoples decision and right to protect them selves.

Correct.the sign must be worded right.I can not find it on Michies legal resources(im kinda slow this morning) about how the sigs are to be posted.

Update.

The wife is fine only a brused sholder ,neck ,and head. She is back in Memphis today for meetings on the U of M campus so no gun today. Lets keep the pressure up on Nashville to relax the carry limitations in Tennessee.
