Does anybody carry while at church?

If I went to church, I would carry there.

And I figure if God didn't want me carrying in his house, he'd figure out a way to let me know.

Anyway, I've sworn off all organized religions, so it's not really an issue.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread but i just got of the phone with my buddy that went threw the handgun carry class with me and my wife 10 years ago and even he said the guy given the class flat out said it was against the law to carry in a church thats why he has never done it to. why would someone lie about that ? do you think maybe he thought there should be a law where you cant carry in church :D he is still doing the classes here in Dayton im going to go there this weekend and ask him what is up

I carry in church. I too feel like that in this day and age, there is no 'safe zone' other than under the careful watch of the Father. If He gives me conviction not to do so, then I'd stop. But, He set the precedence thousands of years ago when He said in His word that 'a man who will not provide for and protect his family is worse than an infidel.'

Good-nuf fer me.

Plus, I KNOW there are four deacons carrying as well. Two are veteran police captains (and two of the most gentle souls that I know), one younger policeman, and one other regular guy like me.

None of us know the others carry, but the obvious assumptions are ridiculous...

We all sit strategically spread out in the congregation (not by design). I feel safer knowing they are all there.

If that instructor can show me the written law saying it's illegal to carry in a church, then I'll believe it.

Unfortunately, you still have instructors who will tell you that you can't carry in county buildings, banks and places that sell alcohol for carry-out.

That's why it's important to read the state code yourself.

I cant tell you how many people have told me you can't carry in a bank. It's flat wrong.

I carry in church, but I don't know about carrying in a bank...some things are sacred.

Rabbi, isn't the carry thing negated in a "life or death" situation? Granted that would be an interpretation for carrying, and one could make the argument that it is not a "life or death" scenario. Pikuach nefesh or something like that, although, I believe that is interpreted as saving another's life?

Hahaha thats a good one. All BB&T's have signs posted which is a real PITA in the morning when im having to pick up our night drop. Most credit unions though are ok with it as long as you dont walk in with it showing like a cowboy.

Re: Banks. Only if they post a sign correctly. They do have policies for employees, but I never was good at reading company policy. It was all online and you have to look for specific areas of interest to find things. But I don't work at a bank anymore. When I did work for the bank, I did have 3 different people pull guns (2 glocks and a HK) on me.....course it was to show me what they had or just bought!

It really is bad, isn't it? Don't know how many times I've seen people with a new HCP say, "My instuctor said...." and it just flat out wrong.

AMEN!!!

You either can or can't carry. I think, LOL

Can a place dictate carry is okay as long as it is concealed? Atomic Pawn in Fountain City has a sign like this.

Jamie, nice avatar dude.

They can specify no shoes no shirt no service, so I dont see why not.

there is a liquor store on Merchants Rd that has a big sign on the door stating in so many words that if you can't wear your pants pulled up normally to go somewhere else.

Rabbi you might need one of them signs too, lol. Of course it would probably kill your walk in traffic.

Boy, we have an idiot for an AG. That's scary.

But in this case I think he just saying that the property owner can tell you to leave if he isn't posted and you are OCing.

Glad you like it, Mike.

It came down to a choice of either a pic of the 1858 or my hat...

I figured the gun would scare fewer people. :D

BTW... before I forget to say so, Mike.357 is the fellow that told me about this place.

Try not to hold it against him. :D

I work in Newport and the church is very small. Right smack in the middle of town. My boss was reading the article in the local paper today and he is concerned that this could happen at our plant someday. I told him if he is paranoid he should get his CCW and learn to shoot. He said "that's what I hired you for!" Now I don't know that I would take a bullet for him, but if someone came in with intent, God forbid, I would take what ever means necessary to get control of the situation. Like a boy scout, be prepared.

Oh one other thing, A friend and I were having this discussion last night at choir practice. I usually derig before I go into the church and he said he never leaves his no matter what. He carries a fanny pack at all times and he showed me his 380 he keeps tucked away. I feel like it may be a little intimidating to the church body, seeing me packin'. After all, I'm up front bangin' on the drums in plain site of everyone. What do you think, fanny pack as well? Arghhhhh.

Fanny packs - bleh! I'd just get a pocket pistol. Men with fanny packs are either gay or packing. By the time you got out your handgun, you would already be shot and bleeding out.

As always, I recommend the Kel-Tec P3AT back pocket gun in a Don Hume holster.
