Mississippi HB 506 and Permit Carry

Since I am in the Memphis area, I have been following this new license process in Mississippi that allows folks down there to get training and carry in a lot more places than previously allowed. Licensees in Mississippi are presently not required to have training/firing range qual to get a license. I am trying to find out if folks with TN handgun carry permits (since training required) will soon be able to carry in more places. It appears the Mississippi DPS has been stalling the rules process of this new law.

Sounds like it could make reciprocity a little messy, having it on two different levels. But who knows.

Interesting about the DPS. I know here in TN when the legislature passed a law to make certain military license plates available for motorcycles as well....it took 2-3 years because of design etc.. before they were actually available. But doesn't seem like it should take that long just to implement procedures....

I would not be surprised that the Mississippi DPS is just trying to discourage people from getting this enhanced license. The training requirements are crazy if you read the MS Gunowners thread. Extremely high round count.

I just read the proposed training requirements and they are extensive. It looks like basically a LE qualification course, at the end of day 2 of the class. The instructors, none of which are approved yet, are required to compile/keep a lot of paperwork. DPS is starting to take a lot of heat for this. You can read more of the training requirements and the discussion here:

House bill 506 update

All my family lives in Mississippi and I travel there a lot, so I’m really interested in this. I’m thinking of emailing someone in MS to ask if out-of-state permit holders, specifically Tennesseans, with training qualify for the expanded benefits now. Who would I email, the state attorney general?

Supposedly with training, the only places in Mississippi that you won't be able to carry will be police stations, prisons, and courtrooms during court. It is gray if this law allows people to carry away from their cars on school property/buildings. With a regular license, or as of now reciprocity, there are a lot of places in Mississippi you can't carry a handgun. They have a lot of silly laws that make TN look good.
and click on Mississippi on the map. If we could get all local parks in TN legal, decriminalize these 500 dollar signs, and make it legal for those with permits to carry on school property, we'd have it pretty good.
