S&W 1911PD

This week I had the craving for another 1911 so I stopped by my local friendly gun shop and a Commander sized S&W 1911PD wouldn't leave me alone so I had to take it home. I really liked how light it was and didn't know about the scandium frame at the time I bought it. Hopefully I'll get out to shoot it this week.

What can you tell me about the S&W 1911PD? I really wished for more time to research before I bought it but, when I do that I always end up wanting guns that I can't afford and still feed the kids.

Here is the obligatory, "prove it", photo.

I have one and I love it I was scared of the external extractor but after 1000 rds or so not one malfunction of any kind it carries great and is just as accurate as my Kimber Eclipse ProII I added a Wilson combat mag well and some ergo grip panels to get more control and faster mag changes but it still shoots just like stock and I am glad I bought it I carry it almost every day I am going to add a wilson combat extended slide stop and then I will leave it alone, until trijicon makes the new HD sights available for it then they are going on, then Ill leave it alone, unless..........

oh yeah nice carpet by the way really sets off the black gun excellent choice. :)

The photo was really an afterthought as I knew there would be people looking at the thread and saying it was worthless without pics. Google can find you a much better pic of this stock pistol than any one I will ever take.

I was hung up on getting and OD/black Springfiled Loaded Champion but, they are rare as hen's teeth and I really didn't care to have the ambi safety. I really like the OD/black look so I'm considering adding a set of OD grips.

What are your thoughts on the VZ grips in OD? Suggestions? I don't want anything that's too rough because I will carry this gun and don't want it snagging clothes or rubbing me raw.

I carry mine with the ergo grips they are rough enough to use with sweaty hands but dont rub you raw I carry with just a t-shirt over mine and it doesnt bother me, the g10 grips from some manufacturers are a good mix of the rough Springfield TRp grip and the ergo its the pattern of the trp with about half the depth so it is easier on you to carry but still hangs in there in the heat, I just got my extended slide stop from Wilson on mine today now I wait for the Trijicon HD sights for it, I put another 50 flawless rounds thru it after my post I do love this gun.
