I started thinking about it and am actually going to go with a 20".

LOL I told you so :screwy:

I saw a Noveske 20" Stainless steel barrel with a 1/8 twist that looks amazing. Although, I still want 21 to 22" myself.

got all my parts on order for a functioning rifle w/ BUIS. still looking to figure out how I want to go with optics. thanks all for the help.

Nice. Well, you could go with the holographic sight like John. If you haven't seen his, call him up and ask him if you can come over and play with it.

I've played with johns AR, we went up to Taylor's to shoot right after they both built theirs. I wouldn't mind an eotech but am not sure if I want to spend that much right after ordering all my other parts.

True...could always go with an ACOG. Taylor got rid of his sight though.

EoTechs are good, and half as expensive as ACOGs. You can find some deals out there, as long as you're persistent enough to check (places like the Equipment Exchange at www.ar15.com )--the same could be said for ACOGs, but the EoTechs would be far cheaper. Whatever it is you choose, I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Also, this thread has taken a sharp turn since I last looked. I wouldn't be comfortable shooting with a 20" barrel, but I've never done any shooting beyond 100 yards. Maybe one of these days you could show me what all the hype is about. :screwy:

Is there really that much of a difference in 4" of barrel length?

No, I suppose not. But I know that it's only a loss of velocity so I opt for the 16" barrels. Velocity isn't an issue for me at the short ranges I shoot. And another factor is I use it as my HD carbine--can you imagine clearing a small house with a 20" AR? :screwy:

Even though I wanted a 20", I ended up ordering a 16" at the last minute because they didn't have the barrel I wanted in stock. So I got the 16".

Ah. I hate it when things are out of stock... Well, that doesn't mean you can't build a 20" upper a little later.

It occured to me last night I should have bought one of those M-16 kits back when they were $350...

Yes and it sounds all kinds of amazing. And if they run, you've got the barrel length for a great long range shot.

I'm not trying to change anyone's mind--what works for you will work for you. It's really that simple.
