I agree that it is sad. But, I cannot understand how this happens. I check my guns that I know" I "unloaded before I put them in the safe that only I have access to. I still double check them before I do ANYTHING with them. Racking the slide or opening the cylinder takes one second. I just don't get it.

Inexplicable. I often wonder if folks are drinking when they do stuff like this.

I mean, it was a revolver...

I cannot fathom any reason why (1) the barrel would ever be pointed at yourself while "trying to clean the gun," and (2) why you would not just flip the cylinder to check it. Regardless of how well you know the weapon, surely to goodness you would know enough to be able to open it up.

Raises the question, how long has he owned firearms and has he or anyone in his family had any formal training?
