I'm sorry but being a kid means that you do stupid stuff and learn, not go to prison with a felony.

the prosecutor says "I feel pretty comfortable with the charges"? what the hell? they don't even care about right and wrong anymore, they just want a conviction to pad their conviction rates to make themselves look better.

The only problem I have is there is potential for young minors to see it leading to some very serious questions that some parents may not want to answer. I know that if my 13 year old high schooler saw it that is not something I would want to have to explain. I could live with charges of disorderly conduct as well as contributing to the delinquency of a minor if a minor saw it but other than that the rest is a bit over the top.

At least is wasn't the usual "zero tolerance" crap but they are about to ruin a young man's life before it has even begun. He should have some sort of punishment but considering it was not done with malice it should be very light, perhaps community service and then all charges expunged.

I'm just glad I made it out of the public school system when I did. I don't know how many times I would have been expelled, suspended, or worse if I had to go through it now.

I understand your concern but use to they would threaten you, threaten to with hold grades, call your parents and on and on, but a criminal record over this? Maybe nothing but jail scares them anymore. I dunno, glad I'm out of school and my kids are as well. Being old has advantages.

Then again I guess he's lucky they didn't think to add some sex related charge and turn him into an on the books sexual offender.

The purpose of terrorists, be they foreign (such as Al Queda) or domestic, is to instill such terror into a populace or particular group within that populace that said group's lives and behavior are changed in a lasting manner. If we, as a society, are so damned scared of our own shadow that a kid with a blow-up doll is charged as if he had tried to plant a bomb then those who wish to instill unreasonable terror in the American people can pat each other on the backs and declare 'mission accomplished'.

Since when does the perception of a crime lead to criminal charges. "The janitor saw a kid wearing a hoodie".....not illegal. "kid wearing hoodie carried a package"......not illegal. "kid wearing hoodie leaves package"........not illegal. "Janitor calls bomb squad".....kid faces charges. Looks like the janitor should be the one facing 8 years in prison. It's not like the kid put a fake bomb or called in a bomb threat. That would be like me locking my keys in my car, which I have been known to do. And someone call the cops because I had a coat hanger in the door. Would the cop arrest me because someone thought I was stealing a car?

that felon charge will only ruin his chances of ever having a job to provide himself on his own. if he gets the felon charge on his record he may only be on the streets with no job and no where to go as a result. i would have thought a little better of indiana than this!

Good old modern life. Nowadays, I'd guess that a criscoed piglet would qualify as a dirty bomb. Strange days are indeed upon us, and zero tolerance is one of the symptoms.

My my my...how times have changed. When I was in high school and a prank like that was accomplished...even the principal would've been high 5'n the kid for an excellent prank...not bring him up on felony charges...geez...folks...get a life
