Does anyone have any experience with this or any pros/cons to them? I am trying to decide on what optics route I want to go with on my AR build and can't decide....there are just so many options.

If anyone has any better suggestions, here is what I would like. Something that I can shoot relatively accurately at distances up to 100-200 yds on the high end, but still shoot free standing at like 50 yards without the target looking like an elephant. So I am looking at maybe 3-4x magnification. Do not have a preference to red dot, holographic, acog, or anything. I just want a good sight system that will allow some versatility.

I also need to decide on some iron sites, depending on what optics route I go will determine whether I get flip up back up site system, or a fixed site system. I know that for some red dots and holographic sites, people will have there iron sites lined up on bottom half of their site, so if they have an optics failure they can resort to the iron sites with little adjustment - is this possible with magnified optics?

Were it me, and my high end was 100-200m, I would likely just go with the straight up Eotech. If you want to add a magnifer later, it's no big deal, you can just slap it on.

I have that configuration on my AR. I still suck with a rifle, but I like it.

Probably going to just see if I can find a used eotech in good condition, and just use that for a while. Might get the magnifier with a flip mount down the road...would be cheaper breaking it up too. Worst thing that could happen is I decide I don't need the magnifier.

Two suggestions:

1) make sure you get a red dot with a MOA that will fit your needs. I find that anything bigger than a 2 MOA will all but cover your target at 200 yds.

2) depending on your weapon configuration the optic mounts you choose will dictate what you are able to install. I've got an Aimpoint red dot, Aimpoint 3X magnifier and BUIS all installed.

If your gonna do a red dot with a magnifer, look at the primary arms stuff. Its the best bang for your buck. Im very happy with mine. I thought i needed a eotech aswell but after researching them i spent a 1/3 of the money. And there stuff is setup to cowitness with irons.
