Sort of depressing being so close to the 4th.

Do you think we will ever get some representatives, senators, and a president that will put a stop to all this nonsense?

Thousands rally against Ga. immigration law - Washington Times

While I am somewhat moderate (meaning I don't think we should deport all of them) when it comes to immigration, when I see rallies such as these, it really ticks me off. Some of the statements made were, "We have earned the right to be here." "We have to fight for our rights." Really?

What rights might those be, and when did sucessfully entering the country illegally designate that one has "earned" their citizenship?

Ya know, it seems to me that if I was an open borders advocate that last thing I should be doing is giving the finger to the american citizens by demanding rights that do not exist.

Had a major typo in my original post. I don't believe all should be deported. I have always held the belief that those illegal immigrants who do not have a criminal record and can support themselves and their families without any form of government assistance should be allowed to stay. There are a lot of natural born citizens that don't meet that criteria.

I know quite a few illegals and I have been somewhat sympathetic towards their reason for coming here. However, when I read or hear from some demanding handouts or rights that do not exist, my sympathy diminishes quite fast. It is an absolute shame that the government has allowed the situation to develop into the montrosity we currently face.

Since the feds do not want to solve this problem, perhaps we should allow the states to enforce their own immigration policies.

How many will it take to become enough? A million? A billion? How long will the land of opportunity have opportunity? How long can we support the world's refugees. Our country is broke and deeply in debt. Still they come. JMHO.

I know a gal who went to that protest. She is a socialist and she not only advocates open borders, but advocates doing away with all immigration laws completely. She also believes that nations should do away with borders completely and we should have a one-world government with all wealth and resources shared equally by everyone. You simply can't carry out an argument with someone who honestly believes that way because they view reality totally differently than you do.

Dumb broads like that will be first in line to receive their mark, and they'll deserve the reward to boot.

Yep. Because of these very issues, I view illegal immigrants as a threat to our nation and believe they should be viewed and treated as foreign invaders. Further, I believe that our military (National Guard, at least) should be brought home from fighting for other peoples' countries and used to repel these foreign invaders at the borders. Whether we like it or not, whether we want to admit it or not and whether it is PC or not, illegal immigration is as much an invasion and a threat to our country - a war, if you will - as anything we have faced.

What sort of nation have we become when illegals protest that their 'rights' (rights which they do not have) are being violated simply by being asked for documentation while at the same time wheelchair bound, 95 year old cancer victims are made to remove their adult diapers to be searched before boarding a plane? I'll answer that, myself - a nation that will soon not exist as we have known it unless the path we are on changes and fast.

the rights every human being is born with. Gov'ts only recognize ( or not) those rights, People have them regardless.

I don't think anyone is denying them the unalienable rights of life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness, nor do I think that is what they are advocating. They are demanding citizenship and/or those rights that come with citizenship. As I stated earlier, I am not of the opinion that all illegal immigrants should be deported. I would, however, like to have a set of laws that are enforced so as to not further burden the taxpayer.

If one is honest, they have to admit that it is totally unfair to the taxpayers of this country for a large swath of another country(ies)'s poor and destitute to illegally enter this country and collect and/or demand benefits such as education, healthcare, and housing assistance. If we consider the following:

- we have over 14 trillion in debt,

- all of our states are in debt (some more than others),

- the unemployment rate is > 9% and underemployment ranges from 18 - 20%,

- we have skyrocketing healthcare costs, and the boondoggle "Obamacare" is just going exacerbate the problem,

- we are engaged in two wars and three or four other conflicts,

- the number of foreign nationals in our prison system is increasing, and

- we have almost reached the point where 50% of the population doesn't pay federal income tax.

I think we have enough problems of our own that need to be solved first before allowing another country to crap all over us by exporting their citizens to us. Is it too much to ask our federal government to represent it's citizens and do their damn job instead of sticking it to us because they (both parties) see a potentially large future voting bloc? If the fed doesn't want to do anything about the problem because they are afraid of being labeled by the media and open borders advocates as mean-spirited or xenophobic, then they need to get the hell out of the way and not interfere when the states try to fix this mess.
