I put on my holster and gun just like my watch and wallet each morning as I leave for work. If I'm leaving it's going with me. Usually I just leave it on until I get ready for bed. Not really because I feel I need to have it that close in the house, just easier if you're in and out to keep it on you. If I know I'm just hanging out at home then normally don't carry. I have several placed stratigically throughout the house in secure but readily accessible areas.

Like my screen name says "ReadyOrNot", I choose to be "Ready"

I'm in the "I sometimes forget to take it off" crowd but that more often than not means my J-Frame in the pocket rather than a 1911 strapped to my side. The bigger hardware almost always gets removed and placed on a dresser, in the night stand or in the vault.

Like Mars, when we're at home we are never too far from one.

If I'm at home, my Sig 1911 is on me. I live in the country with a lot of woods on three sides of my house, so you never know what might be coming. Wild animals don't usually obey when you yell STOP, or SIT, or F.O! . I don't count on my dogs 'cause they sleep alot. Someone could kick my front door in and shoot my one of my dogs before the dog could even lunge. There's no more likelyhood of getting attacked or robbed in the city as there is in my house IMO. It only takes one time. Of course until I get my HCP in the mail I have to leave my guns at home if I leave.

shower holster and gun combination will be!!!

gun in a zip lock bag works great, I believe it can be fired right through the bag. Criminals who case homes and homeowners know if you have a set shower schedule and certainly will use that time to break in if they choose to do it while you are home.

Paranoid, you bet !

what 2 men do in the privacy of their own homes

Not that there is anything wrong with that, not at all. Dave there will be no wrestling this weekend on the agenda.

Scardy cat....come on Mike, man up! :koolaid:

Almost always within reach.

Got my Glocks in the dishwasher for kitchen assaults, Mossberg Stainless Mariner 14" 12ga with the SuperTac Underwater Waterproof Mildew-resistant Flechettes for showering, and some claymores are positioned to repel the zombies or pits when I mow the lawn.

Sort of kidding. One is really within reach most of the time.

I'd rather have it on me 24/7 and not need it than to need it one minute out of 24/7 and not have it :koolaid:

All the time , bad guys don't make appointments !!

What he said.

I either OC while walking around outside (in the garage, in the yard, etc), and I keep it within arms reach while I move around the house. If I'm in my family room it's on the coffee table, if I'm in the bedroom it's on the nightstand, if I'm on the can it's on the counter, in the kitchen it's on the table/counter.

It's never more than 10 ft away from me. I keep the place locked up well all the time, so if I need more time than it takes to move 10 ft...I'm in trouble. No alarm, but my dog works better (and costs less) than a real alarm system :koolaid:

I have them in strategic places around the house, even in the bathroom:D

Posted

I do for two main reasons, so I don't have to arm/disarm everytime I leave the house and secondly so the children don't have access to the weapon.

I have a few firearms strategically placed around the house to where I'm never more than a step or two away from a pistol or a shotgun. Some times I'll forget to take my main off when coming home at the end of a day but ususally I do. Often times the Seecamp stays in my pocket just because it's kind of like my wallet.

Thanks for the imput , I've seen through-out some post that alot of you have safes and would like to know where I could get one if they don't cost to much.

Bruce

I got mine at Dicks during Christmas it was on sale.

http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2881829&cp=2367824.2292572.2292624.2292630&parentPage=family&searchId=2292572

I got it for like $550 I think. I like it a lot and prefer its non-electronic lock. its EMP proof :P Actually I just dont trust a pin pad to stay working properly. While im sure any good thief could break into it quickly your run of the mill smash and grab crack head sure couldnt and neither can those pesky family members you dont trust but have to put up with :koolaid: The only problem I am starting to have is that Im running out of room due to my current out of control gun habit :D Buy it...you'll love it.

I don't see a thing wrong, or paranoid, about carrying at home, but carrying is too uncomfortable to be done by me 24/7. I know carrying at home is a way to keep your weapon handy, while out of reach of youngsters. I don't carry at home, but I have weapons in reach when I am home. My 3 and 7 year olds can reach them, too. They know better than to play with my guns, but know that any time they want, Daddy will show them the guns, letting them touch. To each his own, but everyone seems so worried about keeping guns out of the reach of children. Instead I choose to do the necessary parenting, however hard that may be. We have a whole generation of whimps that can't swing, slide, or play without padded rails, 2 feet of mulch, or coated chains. I'll stop there, before I get a good rant going.

Greg....I was (still am to some degree) like you in that I didn't want guns to be that hidden, mysterious device to my kids. Never hid mine, still don't in the sense they know I carry, would unload it in front of them and let them handle it if the wanted.

Well.....one night there was an incident, by my oldest, luckily I still have as many kids as I started with that night.......let's just say from that point forward there has been NO loaded, unlocked, out of my possession firearms in the house since.

I guess what I'm saying is just because you've done your best to educate them and make the familiar with guns, doesn't mean they won't still do something they aren't supposed to when no one is around.

Greg, I have to agree with what Fallguy said. No matter how great of a parent you/we are, and no matter how well you/we teach our kid(s) the proper gun safety rules, there is always a chance that they will disobey.....and all it takes is that one or two seconds when you're not looking.

I personally plan on teaching my three year old son how to shoot with a red ryder bb gun this summer, and I have already started teaching him gun safety rules. After the bb gun, maybe next summer we'll move to a 22 rifle, and so on. Sometimes he will lift my shirt and try to touch my gun and I will tell him not to and explain to him that it is extremely dangerous......but that soon I will show him what a gun can do. I do agree with Greg that we shouldn't keep our guns completely away from the kids and forbid them to ever touch them.......that will just make them want to get at them even more. I think it's important to let them handle and shoot guns, so that they will gain a proper respect and understanding of what they are for and what they can do. However, I think it's just as important to keep our loaded guns far out of their reach and either locked up and/or on us at all times.

This is just my opinion, as a mom as well as long time gun owner/shooter.

I looked around the basement here earlier tonight. There were three:eek: guns

lying around. Only ammo in one, my carry gun. The grandson does not even look twice at this stuff. He has been exposed since , forever. I do not and never will leave loaded guns laying around but it always eases my mind when he does not pay them any attention.

I have a cabinet down here. It holds stuff like my Dale Earnhardt shrine, a few die cast cars, sports memorablia. The grandson knows he is not ever, ever ever allowed to mess with that stuff. It sits behind glass doors. All the little bugger wants to do is play with the stuff. Always asking me, and always hearing NO, LOL.

Guns, who cares, the Boomer Esiason action figure he is all about it.

Just shows that if it is commonplace and they can touch it they don't want to. Let them know you have it and don't allow them to touch it and they want it bad.

Keeping kids safe with weapons involves training right out of the box.
