Is anyone else getting a massive amount of those Japanese beetles? I never did get any cicada (sp) up here but holy shet am I getting the beetles.

What is your preferred method of distributing death to them and their ilk? I'm using Sevin on em' but it seems I am spraying more often than last year. Perhaps my ratio is weak. I'm just wondering what others are doing/using.

I'm waiting for this to hit the market:

Microsoft alum fights malaria by zapping mosquitoes with lasers | SmartPlanet

It's the mosquito death star, if you will. One device can target up to five acres, and is fine tuned enough to be able to distinquish between male and female mosquitos.

It has huge implications for both force protection on our bases abroad, not to mention potentially eradicating malaria worldwide.

I used the "beetle bag" for several years at my old house. It seemed to do a reasonable job of keeping them off my plants. The number of beetles captured was staggering. Nothing like tossing a bag jammed full of writhing vermin into the trash. The typical grub killer stuff (milky spore) to put on your lawn in the spring helps as well.

That's what I was recommended to try by a neighbor. He said its unbelievable how many will get caught in it. Now I need to just go out and get it.

I use insecticidal soap and/or Neem oil. Both are very effective and not harmful to dogs, kids, etc. But I try to be careful to spray when flowers are closed, as I don't want to kill any bees - bumble or honey.

Each year I tell myself I will spread something to get 'em in the ground then don't.

Another way, depending on the size of your garden, is to go out early in the day awhen the bugs are sluggish (no puns intended) and pluck the little b-----ds off by hand and drop "em in a bucket of soapy water (made with any dish washing liquid or even Simple Green - and diluted Simple Green makes a good insecticial spray, also, if you want something not too costly and "do it yourself").

Great. Now get a move on and get it into production. I'd sure like to sit in my back yard and not be swarmed by the nasty little buggers all the time.
