And the Walmart at east town will be selling pistols after the first of the year.

Went to Academy and wasn't impressed. Gander and BassPro has prices that are comparable as well as cheaper. I walked out after a clerk tried to tell a customer a Remington 770 was like a 700 except the 770 comes with a scope. AR prices are cheaper elsewhere. Scopes were reasonable on the cheaper ones.

Quick question...

Is it posted??? My wife and I are planning on swinging by sometime this weekend to browse, and I like to know before I get all the way to the door. My wife fusses over having to bring her gun back to the car.

Not posted, has a sign that states that concealed and open carry ok as long as you abide by state law.

I didn't check ammo prices all the way around, but the Winchester 525 Bulk is $16, which is cheaper than Wal-Mart. The Monarch Branded 9mm was $9.49, which is the same as Wal-Mart for Federal. Their rimfire long arms selection was priced equitably to Wal-Mart, and cheaper than I have seen anywhere else locally.

They did have the $699 Bushmaster with the reddot that Buds is advertising. I really didn't pay a whole lot of attention to any other long arms.

I saw the Cougars in 9mm at $499, one in .45ACP for $449. The LCPs were on sale for $279. A Sig Mosquito was $250 if I recall correctly, they had a colored frame higher. An Uberti .357 Single Action was $279, a slew of Rossi double actions in many flavors for $249-299. Glocks were in the $499 range.

I didn't look at much else, took in some of the sights while I waited an hour for the background checks to begin.

I did notice they had a lot of kids working there. There might have been two folks behind the gun counter over twenty-five. I noticed that several of them were stumped by the simplest questions, such as "What round does the Glock 17 shoot" as a gentleman was filling out the 4473 to buy said Glock.

I did notice one of the floor walkers doing his damnedest to sell the Hornady Zombie Defense rounds. They had them in .223 and most handgun calibers he claimed. But he was blindsided when a customer asked him to locate another commercial brand in a different caliber.

I am sure once they get settled into their groove in Knoxville it will just become another regular haunt, but right now there is a lot of fuss going on about it.

Well I'm not sure what 10/22 you were looking at at bill's but I was there today and they had a new one for $219.99. Stars & Stripes prices have been pretty high the times I have gone in there. :/

Yes.

Thieves gravitate to where they perceive the most money is, ie, West Knoxville.

Heh, well then all the thieves in the world would be working Wall Street.

Wait, bad example.

The problem is thieves don't gravitate to where the most money is, or even where the perceive they most money is. They go where the easiest buck is. That's why they are thieves. It's like weight loss. Sure you could eat less and exercise more but that stuff is actually work so most people like to hope a bulls#it pill works.

Which goes a long to explain why most people don't have to worry about midnight break ins. People hear the stories about home invasions and think "Oh god, people are breaking into random homes to steal the ming vases!" Except they aren't. Home invasions are all about the oxy's. People bust into homes to get their next fix or income stream. Just breaking into houses randomly has no real payoff. If they bust into my house they'll get a rusty switchblade and a half digested pocket mint.

I didn't see any of the wood stocked carbines, I did see some synthetic stocks and stainless versions.

As I figure the bug will hit me, I didn't see the point of buying anything higher than the plainest and cheapest model.

They did have a Thureon Defence and JR Carbine though. I was impressed to see those.

Let's face it Acadamey is not the "Savior" to all gun related. They are just another competitor in the market that will have competitive prices and available stock. Things will change with customer service as time goes on. I have not been there yet, but will probably Monday evening.
