Dan Wesson .357, 1979

My dad is considering selling his Dan Wesson 357, he bought new in 1979 and has only put a box through it. It has spent most of it's time in the brown hard case it came in (which looks likes mini briefcase). It is a complete set with a 2,4,6,8" barrels, barrel changing tools. And includes the regular and commando grips. The only thing missing is that he said it came with a belt buckle, I can'tfind a good comparison for price,the majority of the sets I see don't have all 4barrels, and from what I can tell...the 2"is rather rare. Anyone have an idea what the value of this set is? Thanks!

I had one back about the same time frame. Great gun. It was called the Pistol Pack Series. 2,4,6,8"

barrels/shrouds. Best I recall, I gave $300 + at that time. Likely worth more today.

Traded it for a 44mag, same setup. Shoulda kept the 357. Better shooter. Very accurate. I could pop bottles

& cans with that thing floating down the creek. Haven't been able to pull that off since.

If I hadn't just bought two guns, we'd talk. LOL Reached the wife's limit for awhile ( and the budget).

This is on gunbroker.com and it's a retail price. Probably not really what you would get out of it.

Dan Wessons were outstanding pistols. A friend of mine bought a Dan Wesson with a 6" barrel and shot it head to head against another friend's Python and the Dan Wesson came out the winner.

I have one that i bought new in 1980 for about three hundred. They are making the revolver again at the new Dan Wessonthey will be about $1500.00. That is just for the rovolver from what I have heard. The pistol packs of old are bringing between 900-20000depending on what you have. The Pistol Paks listed on GunBroker and GunsAmerica have all been there for a long time. If you actually want to sell it, it will go pretty quick at $800 or so. If you want top dollar, you might try $900. But be prepared for it to sit for a while. In today's economy, it's hard to get collector prices.

BTW, the retail of the new revolvers is $1169 for the 6" VH. I haven't actually seen one for sale yet, so there is no telling what the actual selling price will be. But if I had to guess, I'd say that most sellers will try real hard to keep it under $1000.
