How does moisture/sweat affect bullets?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering how susceptible are bullets to moisture? I carry 24/7 and especially in the hot summer when I'm outside, I do a lot of sweating. Since I carry mainly in a belly band, my gun inevitably gets wet with persperation. Will this affect my bullets? I keep good quality factory JHP's in my guns.

sweat doesn't affect bullets over the short term. submersion in water will.

I would say if you change out your carry ammo monthly, or bi monthly, you shouldn't have worries.

notice: oiling bullets will have adverse effects on the cycling and firing of a weapon.

if your rounds are wet from perspiration, dry them with a dry cloth and they should be fine.

the finish on the firearm, and even then not much.

Thats why I don't worry about carrying a pretty handgun. In the summer it is gonna get sweated up, even in the winter at the end of the day there is a sweat spot on the shirt where the gun is resting all day. I opt for reliable, inexpensive, and durable for carry.

After all it is truly a tool. The pretty guns stay in the safe aside from when they get exercised and cleaned.
