"Rebuilt title" vehicles are ones that have been totaled, sold as salvage, and then rebuilt back to operating condition.

It looks like salvaged vehicle can be on the roads in TN, once a rebuilt title has been issued. From the TN website:

No matter to what extent the vehicle is rebuilt, the owner will only be issued a title branding the vehicle as rebuilt or flood, depending on the type of damage, so that future purchasers of the vehicle will know that the vehicle had been totaled and rebuilt.

NOTE: A vehicle with a salvage certificate CANNOT be operated legally on the roadways of Tennessee . Not until a title is issued, deeming the vehicle as rebuilt, can the vehicle be operated on Tennessee roadways.

There are two types of title you can get on a totalled car in tn, a salvage title (scrap yards get these and the vehicles become parts only, and can no longer be registered in TN, I've learned this by trying to buy cars from scrap yards to rebuild), the 2nd is a rebuilt title which requires you to take photos of the car in its repaired condition and go through a whole process of getting a new title approved (did this with an ex girlfriends car a few years back). I'm assuming their "Red title" is the scrapyard one. All in all I stay away from anything with either title unless I have seen the car in its wrecked condition (1st person, no photos) to know how bad it was, or if I just need parts off the vehicle.

...I know what a rebuilt title is and thought it could be titled in Tn. So if you know could you enlighten me. Thanks

I had no problem getting a TN title on a rebuilt jeep several years ago, nor did the next owner of the vehicle.

Someone also told me that you can't get insurance on a vehicle with a rebuilt title. I don't know if this true or not. Plus I hate to say it it ,but why would you want to spend that kind of money on something that you know had been :) wrecked

I theft recovery can also be considered salvage, as well as flood, wreck and others.

I have had no issues getting insurance on my rebuilt bike or car.

There is no way that the Jeep is worth what he is asking. Period. A Rebuilt vehicle is fine for driving (as long as it has been repaired and inspected properly,) but they are horrible investments. You will not get your money back.

I had no problem getting insurance on her car with the rebuilt title. As for being worth the money, if you can't get them for next to nothing don't bother. They are terrible to sell, and you wind up getting very little out of them. If you buy one, expect to drive it until the wheels fall off basically, and if you don't know what you're looking at that may be sooner than you expect.

One of the problems with the way Tennessee issues salvage titles is the case of Hail Damage. Car is safe to drive, but the insurance company doesn't want to make the repairs and deems the car as a total lost. Its a real PITA to get a rebuilt title for a car that only looks ugly.

I've rebuilt four salvage title cars. My 99 Lincoln Continental has almost 300,000

miles on it. Just retired it to being a motel car for me in Camden. Still runs like new.

Never heard of a red title, though.

More and more cars with rebuilt titles are out there these days. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but; 1) don't buy one unless you can document in some way the type of damage and repairs to the vehicle, 2) can do a major portion of any type of mechanical repairs yourself, or are willing to spend a lot of money should something go wrong, or 3) are willing to accept that you are buying the vehicle for the rest of your life and probably will never sell it or be able to resell it.

NOT saying that these cars are all junk, just that historically, it's been very difficult to resell a vehicle with a rebuilt title.

Some good buys can be had that way, but be knowledgeable about vehicles and willing to risk the money you put out.

I wouldnt recommend fooling with that. There are PLENTY of jeeps out there for sale, lift kits and all. Blue book on that jeep is $12,000 with a clear title. I think that guy is dilusional on his price. Just FYI the Tomb Raider bull**** doesnt make it a collectors item or worth any more, it still has the standard options as a rubicon or sport addition.
