Interesting Gun Collection

Me and some friends just came back from a few days up at Tellico Plains, doing a little camping and fishing. We stopped at the Tellico Museum and checked it out. I'm sure that many here have seen the GREAT GUN COLLECTION, but if not...it's well worth the time spent in there. I'm not sure who "donated" the collection, but they had some very fine firearms.

Charles Hall. Charlie donated the collection as well as most of the other stuff in the museum.

Charlie was the mayor of Tellico for many many years, and has been the self appointed historian for nearly as long.

When I worked for Opryland in the 90's, there was a "Roy Acuff" gun Collection, part of which was on display in the park...allegedly he had quite a collection. Wonder what happened to it?

I was at conference in the hotel a couple years ago, and there were several cases of his collection in the convention space.

I am pretty sure it is still there. The family and I go there every so often to take family/kids pictures with all the scenery.

Charles Hall Museum

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I want to go check it out sometime. We're always looking for weekend trips. Could you recommend a good campground as well as anything else of interest to see in the area? I noticed in the story a bridge near there I'd like to see as well.

There is civilized camping up Indian Boundry, primitive camping out Citico, or up the Tellico River. Lots of places. There is also a KOA campground just outside of town.

Bald River Falls is a nice place, and there is lots to see and do, Tellico Plains is right next to the Cherokee National Forest, and is the start (or end) of the Cherohala Skyway.

Tellico Plains is my hometown, I haven't seen Mr. Hall in a long time, but I have great respect for the man, he is a wealth of knowledge for the area.

Murgatory, you are correct about Mr.Hall. He was in the musem the day I was there. I talked with him for a few minutes and he told me that Tellico has always been to good to him....and this was his was of giving back. He said that his kids and grandkids have agreed to keep the museums going indefitely after he is gone. BTW...they are going to expand in the near future.

Greg, there are several campspots up the Tellico river. They are primitive w/no hook-ups. The river road will take you to the N.C. line.
